You know you're a hosta newbie when...

... you think hostas grow with the holes in them.

I have major slug problems and last night also found earwigs on the hostas. I have put down sluggo, but we have had so much rain, I'd have to keep applying it every other day. I've been going out early mornings with the ammonia water solution, which is very effective on the ones I see, but there must be a lot that I'm not finding.

I know it's too late to salvage anything for this year, but what can I do now to prevent the swiss-cheese leaves coming back next year?

And what exactly do slug eggs look like? I've tried finding pics online, but haven't found anything that helps me id these things.

Thanks for your help.
