Help! Mother's day gift needed!

Hi, I'm hoping someone can help me on short notice. My mother lives in Evergreen, Colorado and is having difficulty establishing anything in her yard. I would love to give her a gift certificate for Mother's Day from a native plant nursery where she can find plants that should do well in her area. As usual, I have left this to the last minute (bad daughter...), so I need help very quickly. Does anyone know of any nurseries that specialize in Rocky Mountain natives? I so very much appreciate any help. Thank you thank you thank you.

I don't know of any place to recommend, but here's a link to Garden Watchdog which is a site that lets people rate mailorder nurseries. One nursery showed up when I searched on "Plants: Wildflowers/Natives", and then specified Colorado. (These drop-down menus are towards the bottom of the page. There are probably additional nurseries for nearby states which I suspect would have some plants also native to your mother's area). If nobody gives you specific recommendations, this might be your best bet.

Loris, thanks for the link and the idea to go there. I've known about gardenwatchdog, but it never occurs to me to look there! I gave up, too short notice, I sent her a "patio pot" from a local nursery. BUT, I am continuing to look into this for future ideas for my mom.

Varieties that are cold hardy and rated "excellent" for flavor: Jersey, Blueray, Patriot, Spartan, Hardy Blue, Blue Crop, Nelson, Friendship. Jersey has a smaller berry and is the one for blueberry muffins. All of those I listed should be very suitable for Idaho. If you want to give 5-6 plants, I suggest that you give 5-6 different varieties. That way she can see which one she likes the best, just in case she decides to add more plants later.

well it turns out i WILL NOT be getting a mothers day order this year... we have bills to pay and decided that the $40 i would have gotten to spend on plants is need more to pay bills.... so i guess maybe next year i can get the plants ive been waiting to get... :(

Thanks for the info..I will definately put it in the joint. In the back of my brain I think I new better about using the joints..guess I had to learn the hard way!!! I have tried to wrap wire but am not very good at it yet (ya I know, I'll get better!!!) d3bbi- thank you for the link, I'll take a gander at it!! calamity- I think your right about loving to do it!!I do get frustrated with it though cause it like you say not as instant!! everyone- thank you again for the compliments...I will give them..I just gotta put them rings on there. How in the world do you guys hold the iron, the wire, the loop and the solder all at the same time??????????????????

If you haven't done it yet or need something for next time, High Country Gardens in NM is just for that area of the country. They have lots of butterfly and hummingbird plants, say whether the plants are deer or rabbit resistant, xeric, whatever.

They are on the pricey side, but so tempting that I ordered a few and was very satisfied.

I will also vouch for High Country Gardens - I have read a lot of articles about the nursery.
