My faves...... *Nicotiana alata (common evening flowering white) *Datura inoxia *Matthiola incana (started blooming in 90+ degree temps!) *Clarkia elegans (Clarkia amoena does not have a fragrance) *Lilac *Blue Elderberry (Sambucus mexicana).....Native to Eastern WA. I'm scoping out seeds around the corner from me...empty lot. It's a matter of getting them before the birds do though LOL! They are still in flower and smells soooo heavenly :O *Common Milkweed (give it it's own area!) I've been yanking out runners this year 15' away from the mother plant...runners didn't start until year 4! *Phlox paniculata As far as foul smelling: *Pelargonium x hortorum *Ginkgo biloba....steer clear of females; their fruit are extremely foul smelling!! *Ligustrum obtusifolium (Privet) *Juniper (I think it smells of cat urine) Of course most herbs, however there is no smell until leaves or flowers(of some) are crushed,rubbed, etc. Some people think Catmint smells like cat urine. Not sure which Nepeta they have, but mine sure smells much more pleasant than that LOL!

I can't barely smell phlox. I can't smell phlox at ALL. Period. And nobody tell me about zinc. I can smell everything except phlox. There isn't another of the flowers (or spices, or anything) I cannot smell if they have a smell. I also cannot taste BitrexTM. There are a few percent who cannot. I'm disappointed. It's supposed to be so murderously brutally bitter, and I can't find out. And yes, I can taste other bitter things. Dandelions, yuk, methylsulfonylmethane ugh; Tylenol, arggh, etc. Bitter soda water, nicely bitter. Swedish bitters, yup (but no thanks). Etc. I discovered about phlox some 20 years ago. My sister said, 'Ohhh... PHLOX!! I LOVE the smell of phlox". And she goes and bunches a bunch together and sticks her face in it. "Mmmmm!!" I try it and I'm like Dang! she's playing me. The stuff has no smell and she's pulling my leg...

Hi, When were you smelling your Jasmine and Cestrum? Jasmines and Cestrum release their fragrance only at night. However they have no scent during day. However it seems that Cestrum Oranage Peel is bit iffy in the wafting department. See the link. Also, out of curiosity how old are your plants? How about lilies, lilacs, hyacinths, lily of the valley, roses, lavender and rosemary. I even have a yellow bearded iris that is VERY fragrant. Sorry I don't know the name. Roses, lavender and rosemary can be strong or mild smelling. Just choose a strong smelling type. And although lilacs can get big, there is a dwarf variety that only gets about 4 feet tall and wide. Oh, and for the evenings and early mornings, try Plantaginea hosta. It's a very fragrant, night-blooming type that blooms in August. And sweet autumn clemitis is a fragrant climbing vine that blooms in late summer/fall. Good luck. Diana Lynn
