It's certainly a flax. You say 'down the road' as if this might be in a location where people have been active rather than a really wild place. Could it possibly be a stray plant of common flax, Linum usitatissimum, which is a crop grown in Texas according a quick Google. Just a thought.

It looks like a crucifer to me but really need a close up of the flowers. Check the link below. Here is a link that might be useful: Brassiaceae of the southwest

This is my first time posting on this forum, hope you don't mind but I couldn't resist when I saw the photo. It looks like what we in Central Texas call "beggar lice," don't know the scientific name. You could call it a wildflower because of its lacy foliage and little white flowers, but it's also an annoying weed that produces copious amounts of slightly barbed seeds, which hitch a ride by clinging to your clothing, to your dog's fur, or anything else it can stick to, thereby broadcasting and reproducing itself to the point that it's almost impossible to control. Every day I hand-pull as many of these as I can and barely make a dent. We spend the summer picking the seeds out of the dogs' ears and off the rugs. They even get in the laundry and stick to the towels. Can you tell I hate these things? But some people like them because they are pretty.

chervil2, Thanks for reminding me that I needed to mention that if you double click on the photo above it will take you to my on line photo album with many more photos to identify. Once you open the photo album if you click on the largest box in the right hand corner of the page the thumb nail photos will be displayed at a reasonable size or you might prefer to choose view by slide show on the top of the left hand side. Hope that's not too confusing. kt
