here here!! this is my first garden in the city, drove up the four hours (i thought that was bad until i saw your six!!) with a number and budget in mind. after i got all my "must haves" i happily fell in love with so many others. out of 60 plants only 1 hasn't made the transplant (and i should've known better it was a measly looking specimen to begin with) and i couldn't be happier!! but as you say, my wallet feels so empty now!! :)

I can't believe I never went to Garden in the Woods when I lived in MA about thirty minutes away - now it would be a six hour drive. I have some of Cullina's books from the library now, and you know those people working there exhibit no restraint whatsoever - fiddling with conditions to come up with twenty different ecologies and plant communities - most which have nothing to do with that part of MA - it's probably catching.

Here I tought you were talking about my yard. I had a streetside garden which I made a path through the woods to get to. Then I decided to make a garden in my woods, and a great many $$$ later I have one. Never thought a path would cost soo much.

I'm a regular -- I'm lucky enough to live less than an hour away (from the Garden in the Woods in Framingham, not the lovely garden in the woods mentioned by the last poster). Once I was asking a staff member some questions -- he was very helpful, and then I thought to ask his name - it was Bill Cullina. I don't think of myself as someone who gets 'starstruck', but this is as close to a rock star as native plant gardening gets, and I found myself stammering.

Oh I'll have to make the trip again, last time I went I didn't HAVE a garden so it was just for looking. Was there a special day or do they always have a lot for sale?

Sounds great! He has a new nursery, farm in Conneticut. I met him Friday at Bartram's garden native plant sale very nice fellow. I asked if he had malus coronaria there not yet But saw some in Rochester New York. Sarah

Yesterday I was at Garden in the Woods to attend a Wildflower Propagation class taught by Bill Cullina. He's a great guy and I enjoyed it immensely! We even got to take home loads of free plants, he was practically throwing trilliums at us while demonstrating how to propagate them :-)

I am this years hort intern at garden in the woods. I think that it is great reading all your comments. The answer to sugar peas question is that 'yes' we sell native plants everyday of the week 9-7 until June 15 9-5 thereafter. On the 11th of June we have the annual plant sale where we sell our plants, as well as plants from other vendors, including non-native, non-invasive plants. Hope that all of you can come and visit and that we have what you are looking for.

I was checking out the list of availablility and you are already sold out on a few things I was going to get. Will that change for the June 11th sale? Also, isn't it a madhouse there on that day?

Adam,
Yes it is a madhouse that day. No parking and hundreds of people. The problem is that with all the donations and quick sell out I can't tell you if we will have them or when. We bring in a lot of other plants for that day and we get shipments from the new nursery in W. Mass every week. You should come out anyway, I've heard that it is quite a site.
