first.. NEVER USE A CHEMICAL UNTIL YOU ID THE PROBLEM.. AND VERIFY THAT THE CHEMICAL IS RATED FOR THE PROBLEM... its a waste of money .. and dangerous ... second... why destroy part of mother natures garden show.... that was a free plant... you should have reveled in it .. for its own beauty ... is a plant only good for your garden.. if you pay for it???? it is either there because of your watering techniques or the mulch ... if in fact it is a slime mold .... research the slime mold.. and find out why its there.. if it is too much water ... or improper drainage ... then all you need do is to change how you water.. to make it not reappear ... in other words.. there never was a need for the chemicals ... please ... learn to enjoy a 'free' plant in your garden ... mushrooms are my favorite .... growwing on some long dead tree root.. pop up here or there... i used to be like you .... running out and getting rid of them because they interfered with my garden .. then i took a zen attitude about it all .. and come to find out.. they are cool ... and that is what i would think about the slime mold... did you actually get down on your belly and study it ... its probably really cool ... good luck ken

Please use the June 2005 Rose Lists. If there are an corrections to the lists please use this post to address them, or e-mail me crrections. Thank You, Ron S

Jeri J, Thank you for bringing to my attention, a correction in the October 2005 “AEN” supplementary “Rose” List. Should a correction be noted on ARS or my part, the correction will be addressed in a following post. The November post will reflect a correction, removing the name Bevoniensis from the list. As stated in the header, the primary purpose of the “Supplement Rose List” is to compliment the 2005 AEN, by address Corrections / Additions / Deletions a continuing process. Devoniensis is listed in the 2005 AEN, indicating eligibility for Dowager Queen (the reason it was originally included); therefore its removal from the list is in order. Happy Holidays. This is going to be a wild guessing game. It appears to be a decorative washer, If it had only one hole in the center of a star, and if the star was thicker in the center than the edges, I would say it was a washer for a tension member of a load bearing brick wall in a building. Old buildings with load bearing, brick walls, had a nasty habit of suddently collasping, The load bearing wall would buckle outward and dump the load, in this case, the rest of the building supported by the eall. About 100 yrs ago, builders began installing tension rods across the width of the buildings between the floor joists of the second floor. This was done to tie the two walls together to resist a suddent collaspe from buckling. Evidence of this construction can be seen on the outside of the building. Look up at the second floor level on the brick wall and you may see large decorative washers with the end of a threaded rod sticking through it with a large nut. These are the tension rods. I know of one store building in Flora, IL that had a load bearing brick wall and it collasped without warning. Few occupants were inside at the time and they escapes injury by ducking down. The grocery shelving supported the falling upper floor and provided an escape space. There is another very old store building in the neighboring town of Clay City, IL and it has the tension rods described above. Your plate reminds me of a decorative washer similar to foregoing discussion, but I would expect only one hole and a greater thickness in the center. I think that you piece is a decorative washer, but I don't know where it could have been used. It may have been part of machinery, or a building.
