Rocky Mr. Columbine

Please advise! I have a spot in my front yard that is shady and dampish most of day with a little late evening sun. It is right in front of my hedges and at the corner of the porch. I have a feeling Rocky Mt. Columbine and Hosta would be very pretty. Even some Caladuims maybe, but I don't know anything about columbines. Will they continue to flower all summer even if temps get in 90's or 100?

The spot stays dampish unless midsummer, of course, here in the Ohio Valley the soil is very much clay. Would I need to amend the soil a good deal? I am on a fairly tight time and money schedule so can't do too much but fell in love with the columbine that I saw a nursery.
