Yesterday I dug some leeks for soup, harvested brussel sprouts and turnips, and found all the carrots that I had forgotten about. Today I went cross-country skiing around my garden and admired the drifting snow and cold wind. The weather changes make New England dynamic and exciting.

Now it is time to enjoy glossy photos and exaggerated descriptions in seed catalogs.

I was lucky to have Friday off. Most of the snow had gone from my gardens. It was nice to see the different heathers' winter foliage color (usually buried under mountains of snow!). I wish I had taken a picture... Some perennial geraniums foliage I planted from Bluestone last fall were a happy green color. As well as some Snapdragons and pansies near the house. We had similar experience with the weather but only got around 2" of snow.

I did the same-I walked around looking for blooms! I see that the hellebores almost wanted to oblige me. It was quite the shock to my system to wake up to 12 degrees on Sunday. But I certainly enjoyed Saturday. I dug out some lettuce and spinach seeds from my seed bag to try in the greenhouse.

Looks like we're going to have another chance to take that mid-winter stroll around our plants! Here in WMass, temperatures zoomed up in the high 50's again today, and the torrential rain has melted almost all of the ice and snow.

Have to keep reminding myself that it's still very much winter ...and stay focused on the seed starting!
