I know I am late to the party, but here goes. I ordered from Henry Fields, planted in march & the bush flowered & had berries that year. This will be my fourth year & I am ordering more plants, because the one I have has had fruit every year. I am going to try "Pixwell", do not remember what the other was called. By fall it was a nice 3 gallon plant. I always buy one gallon, in 3-6 months in the ground it will be 3 gallon or bigger or I will not buy from that place again. I have nothing bad to say about Henry fields, but Rain tree has more varieties. I am getting a "Poorboy" from them. I know people say gooseberries will not grow south of N.C. line. But mine does fine, even with Global Warming.

Sue: Rather than looking for one place, I took a different tack and looked for specific roses wherever I went. Example: Most Rugosas will do well in Z5, as will most any own-root roses. How can you tell if you don't know? Look for a graft at the base of the plant -- own roots won't have a graft "ball" and will probably do well. Secondly, know that there Are things you can do to help not-so-hardy roses stay hardy in your area. Look for microclimates in your yard that could handle an iffy plant or two. Climbers, particularly. Plant deep -- no sign of the graft should appear above ground. And finally, "local" has become such a misnomer of late. There are very few retail nurseries that actually grow or graft their own roses, or anything else for that matter. Chances are that they got their roses from the very places one can order through on-line. Don't sacrifice quality for keeping the dollars in town. There's plenty of ways to do that, and roses aren't one of them. That said, there's nothing wrong with hitting the $5 table at Ocean State Job Lot for some Hybrid Teas that you know won't make it :-) If you feel like traveling at all, in East Windsor, CT on Route 140 just off Route 91, Revay's still does a lot of their own roses and sells only things that will be hardy to Zone 5. Creosote is NOT an endangered nor a protected species. Period. I checked the laws and provided links. The post by grendelmort saying creosote is endangered is factually baseless and is absolutely untrue! It's one a few posts that are simply spreading manure. Oh, and by the way, there are a couple of loopholes that allow removing or even destroying endangered species. It's amazing to me that anyone believes a post with absolutely no proof/references, especially one that doesn't even pass a common sense test. This is why urban legends persist. Now, I checked a bunch of other laws too. If someone is really, really interested I'll post links (after I get my taxes done). There ARE general laws which prohibit removing anything from state trust lands, not even with a permit (and a lot of other activities too; you'd be amazed). On BLM lands, removing anything is generally prohibited, but it is possible to obtain a permit. Same with some other federal lands. And, of course, on private land one must have permission from the property owner, otherwise you're getting into trespassing. Note, none of these laws have anything to do with creosote being endangered/protected; because it is not. A private property owner could destroy every creosote bush on his/her property with no fear whatsoever. Not that I'm suggesting it. I'm a very environmentally conscious person. It just irks me when people spread bogus information as though it's fact. I'm sorry I posted my question in the first place. I obviously had unrealistic expectations.

rolling river was good but hartmanns I've got some ratty plants. nourse farms has good berry bushes too. just got some blackberry and raspberries from them. fedco in maine has lots of berry plants also. little more pricey but you get a bigger fuller plant. good luck!
