The rule of thumb for plants in containers is they need to be 2 zones hardier than the local climate zone, because plants in pots aren't insulated as well. Unfortunately, even hardy jasmine isn't zone 5 hardy, so you're pushing it. Welcome to the wonderful world of zone denial! Like bboy said, you'll have to put the pot in a protected area, like right next to a south-facing wall, and wrap the pot in an old blanket or bubble wrap or build a chicken-wire cage around it and stuff the space in between with leaves or other mulch. Even then, it's a bit risky. Another option would be to leave it out as late as possible until hard freezes become regular, than bring it inside for the rest of the winter, and then carefully put it out again, starting just during sunny days, when temps warm up to the 30s in spring. No matter what, it's a hassle and there are no guarantees, but hey, a jasmine's worth it! Jim

I haven't, but that's exactly what to do with it , plant it facing south, in the sun, mulch it well. I did that with my Gelsemium sempervirens 'Margarita', which until the past few years, was not proven in zone 6. This year I planted a Trachelospermum that I hope will prove hardy here too. Rather than ditch a large, otherwise healthy specimen (I am assuming it is still producing flowers for you?) and if you don't want to spray you could try the less drastic measure of hosing the whole plant down a few times to see if that shifts a bit of the gunk. Another route would be to cut the plant down to within a foot or so of the ground and let it start again with fresh new growth. You'd lose this year's blooms but still have the plant. On my lemon tree I remove scale with baby wipes but the small leaves and pliable stems of T jasminoides would make that impossible.
