Those of you who post photos....

I'm curious as to which photo service you use. I was using Yahoo photo and it is now closed. They gave four options Snapfish, Shutterfly, Kodak gallery, and Photobucket to move my pics to.

Any opinions as to which is the best or do you have a better choice? Any of these you don't like?

Dave, I like photobucket for posting to GW. They give you the necessary html string so all you have to do is copy and post it to your message posting screen in GW. That said, I also have photos on ImageEvent and I've finally figured out how to make them work too. I've not tried the others.

I just posted for the first time a while ago and Yahoo Photo had turned into Flickr Photo, it was really easy to use. I sometimes look for photos from posters on GW on Photobucket and get lost, I end up at a Photobucket page and can't find the photo in question...Helen.

Easiest Way to Post Pictures for those WITHOUT photo hosting

I had read numerous posts that people had no idea how to post a picture, so I thought I'd throw this idea out. I'm sure that photobucket isn't all that hard, but you do have to sign up first. I can't say much about the process afterwards because when I went to sign up last night, they were down. Yes, Granny, clicking is not an enlargement with this option, it's an advertisement for tinypic.com. Since it's a free service, that's how they get more promotion. I personally don't like to have to click the picture to see it better, so having it just show up in the thread where I want it is great. I'm not sure you really have to worry about an enlargement of your pictures anyways since you get to choose the size to make your picture (if you want to) right on the first page where you upload it. Anyways, it sure was easy enough. For newbies that have never done anything like it, I just thought it would help them. ~Angela

Wow, thank you both! I tried searching for both your email addresses to thank you personally but couldn't find either. Sometimes, well most times, when looking on these boards with all the wonderful, spectacular bathrooms, it makes me feel a bit......... well, a LOT, out of my league. Then I read posts like the two above. I'll just say....I appreciate your posts more than you know. And Flyleft, I love that you made alternate suggestions! I fell short when it came to the Decorating DNA Gene--your suggestion for a Roman shade, I never would have thought of that, thank you! I went with the $11 blind for now because me and hubby are at a crossroads when it comes to fabric. He found the perfect (he thought) fabric for our bedroom window treatments and I've managed to finally *whew!* talk him out of it. But now we are left with not being able to come up with a compromise. Whatever I put in the bedroom, since bathroom and bedroom windows are both on same wall and visible from the entrance to the bedroom, I wanted the same fabric or at least coordinating fabrics for both windows. Until we can come to a compromise on the windows in the bedroom, the blinds were doing their job --- keeping the neighbors from seeing me brush my teefers in the morning. A Roman shade-- Perfect! Oh, and I'm NOT the one that picked out the wall paint color for the bathroom. Personally I'd like to tone it down with a very light wash or glazing of some Golden Brown color. The Medieval Gold works well on the walls in our bedroom because it's in a flat finish and the way the sun comes through the windows in the bedroom keeps the color toned a bit. In the bathroom with a semi-gloss finish and the larger window---Wow--talk about a wake-up jolt in the morning! LOL The can trim, light fixture over the sink, the ceiling fan in the bedroom and the long dowel/curtain rod over the new bedroom windows were done using the darkest brown interior paint I had. I added a blop of dark bronze metallic colorant and a drop of red acrylic craft paint. Mixed half satin and half Dead Flat sealer as a topcoat on all. Again, thank you both. Means a Lot!

Thank you for the compliment loves2cook. I have 3 digital cameras, one of which is a Canon EOS SLR the other two are Olympus, one tiny and one middle-sized point & shoots. I use one or the other according to where I am. (The smallest pocket one is for dining out in restaurants.) I don't use fully automatic settings, but rather make my own combination of manual and "scene" settings. Natural light is all I use and since our meals are in the early afternoon I never need an electric light, unless sitting at a dark restaurant table, where the overhead lamp is sufficient. Never use flash for food photos. I'd be happy to write some tutorials starting this weekend over on the Conversations side to share any tips and knowledge I have. But don't forget there's a whole blog of free help at Digital Photography School I have Photoshop but never use it. I prefer simpler editing programs with minimal adjustments of light, contrast etc. Okay now it's Ann's turn and anyone else who can elaborate on how they do it. I will go over to Conversations before Monday and write something that could hopefully be of help. SharonCb

I use both Shutterfly and Photobucket. I don't have any problems with either of them. Recently I've been using Shutterfly. Copying photos to GW are easy, right clickwith your mouse click on properties and there is your URL.

Many people like Photobucket; however, I like Imageevent a lot. It may not be quite as easy as other services but it has a lot of options.

Jel48, have you tried "HTML for Pages"? It is just above the pictures on the right. It makes posting pics easier.

I use both Flickr (which is Yahoo's new "hook up") and Photobucket. I actually like them both. I find Photobucket to be a tad more reliable though, and it often loads much faster.

I am computer F (as in failure) literate, but, am I to understand I have to join some type of downloading service for a fee, to download pics onto this website. I have tried to figure out how to do this for a year now & don't have a clue. My husband is equally as useless. No, I haven't spent the whole year huddled over this little keyboard pondering the mysteries of the computer blogasphere, but have waisted way too much time trying to figure why I can't get a pic. into this little box. I've only answered a couple messages so far, but I have become quite vexed all the same. What's the deal?

You can open a photobucket account for free. Many people use it. I prefer Imageevent which has an annual fee but it has a lot of options I like.

Once you have opened a photobucket account, you can upload photos to photobucket from your computer.

After photos have been uploaded to photobucket, you can copy the HTML Code for a photo into a GardenWeb message (right-click the box to the right of HTML Code and select COPY, then paste that into a GardenWeb message). This will put a photo into a message.

I pay nothing for my Picturetrail either.

I think many of them let you download up to a maximum number of photos before you need to pay. I simply delete photos I know I will no longer use (they are still on my camera software, so I can reload them if I ever need to) and add new ones.

I've been using it to post photos for a few years, now and have not spent a dime.

The very simplest is tinypic.com (be sure you don't make it tinypics or you willl go where you don't really want to!!) This is not storage, but will simply have you browse for your picture, on My Pictures, or wherever you keep them. Then upload, copy the top line when it comes up and paste it here. It is so simple that I never use my Snapfish or Photobucket any more for posting pictures on a forum.

Boy cowboy, this is a really a huge picture, yikes! now what does a girl do? Hope they don't send the picture police out to get me. Did I miss something? When I copied them from my pictures, they were little. I mentioned I was a computer doofus, didn't I. Well this is just a 'huge example'. Lovely dahlia tho, isn't it? HELP!

Step 1 - post picture. This was accomplished, way to go.

Step 2 - figure out sizing. I will check to see what can be done about that.

Yes - it is a beautiful picture.

When you upload your photo to Tinypic, there is an option to RESIZE. If you leave it as DEFAULT, you get the large picture.

In the RESIZE option, Using MESSAGE BOARD(640x480) gives this size:

In the RESIZE option, Using 15" SCREEN(800x600) gives this size:

Try it out & good luck. You are on your way to posting photos! Let me know if you need any clarification.

Your suggestion about tinypic.com is a good one. It doesn't get any easier than tinypic.com. If all a person needs to do is post a photo, it is great.
