Magnificent!

I never post here on this forum but thought you might appreciate the following photos taken in NE Georgia.

We were blessed with finding this clump over the weekend, about 6 miles from our house, thanks to my son's efforts to find native orchids in our area.

We left it as we found it!

Magnificent, indeed! I've never seen these in the wild. Must be absolutely heart-stopping to come upon a stand of these. Thanks for showing us.

Nik.... I think if you leave it where it is, as a freestanding shrub, you are going to have to support its canes with something, I don't know what... I wouldn't want to grow it that way, if it is FEL, and let's assume it is for now... my plant was grown on a partition fence within my garden, not on a boundary, and it grew to about 10-12 feet width before I moved on... it develops thick strong canes, thorny too, and made a heavy plant... at one time I thought it would bring the fence down, so I had to reinforce it...think of it as a mini Kiftsgate... and as you can see from my photos earlier, it's growing on a wall in that garden - best place for it... I was disappointed in that I couldn't detect a great scent either, as I had been led to believe it possessed... ...looking at your rose again, its habit does remind me of it too, canes flying out everywhere, rambler type... they need tying in... ..best of luck with your 6 foot cane approach, but rather you than me...

Marble, glorious, magnificent marble

Italy has beautiful marble - it's funny to me that most of the Roman ruins are made of brick. The Parthenon, and the Greek ruins are made of limestone and Greek marble, but then the Greek ruins are so much older. It is interesting to think of marble as a structural component of a space (even the marble quarry) when we are used to thinking of it as a counter top :-)

I need help. My momma spiderplant loves direct summer sunlight. I know its weird but she got three times bigger this summer and so so green. She's about 9 years old. I have growing babies also from her. But I brought her in like I always do for winter and put them all under my grow bulb for six hours daily then rest. I put her in a nice large pot with lots of room. Her roots were so congested. But I didnt break up the root base. I never have before either. But now she is sick! First her leaves turned brown and cracked in half. Now they are turning yellow so fast half of her is gone. And bad burns on tips. I only give her purified water now. In summer it was tap and no issues! I fed her a fertilizer stick in her new pot. Now my medium sized babies are yellowing and burning on tips. I changed their soil to an all purpose soil is the only difference other than bringing them in. I didnt change the pot on the medium babies. I've never seen her sick like this. Please tell me what to do! Help!!

Kitty, no my house is a typical 4 bed/2 bath ranch house on a maybe 7000-8000 square foot lot. I really pushed the limit when I hit 375 roses in the mid-2000s, so I knew I needed to downsize, given my work schedule. It was just me caring for them., although DH retired in 2016, and he occasionally helps. I gave away a lot of rare roses that I now wish I hadn't, but there you go. I think I bottomed out at ~200 roses ~2015, but have gradually bumped it back up. I'm afraid that I'm edging up closer to 250, having bought 22 bare roots this winter. I knew I bought too many (14) from my local nursery and Regan, but then I got a shot in my bone-on-bone knee, and went nuts and ordered 8 more from Edmunds. LOL, I spent the first 31 years of my life in Pasadena, so I'm well familiar with Arcadia and the rest of the L.A. area! Edit: to give my DH due credit, he dug almost every single rose hole in our yard from 1999-2002, before he went on the night shift!

Beautiful! Were there other clumps in the area?

How long did you linger? I know it would have been difficult for me to pull myself away.

There are no other large clumps in the area but there are colonies of 3-5 plants scattered about. The leaves are large but they are not as easy to spot as I would think. There was an absolute riot of vegetation in the surrounding area , a protected humid hillside facing NE. There were also Showy Orchis blooming, Trout Lilies by the thousands (long done blooming), Mayapples, the white and the red Buckeyes, and too many other wild blooming plants to list.

In nearby pine woods, the Pink Lady Slippers are going to town, with large blossoms, despite the severe drought we had last summer. Lots of colonies of them, if you where to look!!

Glad ya'll enjoyed the photos! And it was hard to leave; I kept looking back!
