Unless you want giant gorgeous plants that make you return home and create a new hosta bed because his plants are so beautiful that you end up with twice the amount you had planned on getting. Then this will keep you so busy planting that your family has to tell you they are hungry before you realize it is meal time. And also when you visit his garden you will learn so much new information that you can't remember it all and wish you had taken notes. Please note that it causes a horrible case of hosta envy in your friends when they see the giant plants you brought home and then they want to know when you will take them. So please, whatever you do, make sure you avoid this guy!

It's too bad we can't all visit. It's a long way from Texas. I'm so glad you got beautiful plants. I'm a tad jealous, though.

We love pictures, so we're waiting......

I, too, made the mistake of buying from this guy. Now I have a garden full of beautiful, mature plants. It's caused such a problem that all of my neighbors are insanely jealous! I have to sleep with one eye open in fear of one of them scaling the fence and making off with my plants in the middle of the night.

To add insult to injury, the hostas were so reasonably priced that I now have extra money left in my bank account. Woe is me.

I like webwalkway.com, Naylor Creek, Hallson's, Northern Grown, White Oak, Bridgewood, and the weekly Saturday farmer's markets in both Iowa City and Des Moines. The first six do mail order, the farmer's markets usually have several hosta sellers with a pretty good selection and some of the more unusual or newer hostas. If you live in an area with a farmer's market, check it out--it's surprising how many markets have at least one person with hostas.

tHANK YOU, jO. yOU ARE A good activity director! This year I'll be ready. And waiting. I'll try to get some of my pictures with 9 seconds of sound uploaded to Flickr later today. The problem with that is, it is my turn to cook tonight. Plus a lot of other things happening today. First off this morning, the USPS delivered a real surprise package which I'll give a feature in a special thread, I mean it is THAT SPECIAL. Then I set about watering the first section of the garden. It was maybe 10 am and already 100 in the shade and I was wet with sweat simply filling the bird feeder and the birdbaths. Then I took a big bag of veggies to the hardware store and saw a hanging basket which jumped in the car with me. I took it home because I had to do a trip to Lowes and needed an empty car. Yes, I got 30 bags of compost/manure, 6 bags of play sand, 3 cement pots on sale, 3 more LED solar garden lights, and 3 yellow blooming milkweeds. It was too hot to unload mid day so now I must wait until after dinner to do it. Once it is out of the car I'll be able to pick up 20 bags of cypress mulch in the morning. That should get all the materials I need to complete the reshaping of the garden floor to better use the rainfall and make the garden paths easy to walk. I know that is off-topic. I just don't want to find another spot right now. Thanks for listening to my rambling. What I meant to say is that Fragrant Dream is a beauty. Eleven yours is certainly in great shape. Please let me know when your fragrant hosta come into bloom. A good number of mine are blooming now, and it is freaking me out....especially the ones with fasciated scapes, big leaves on the scapes. I have ONE seedpod (so far) on 24 Caret Gold with more flowers still to open. Fragrant Dream in late April 2014

The only time I have been cautioned about something like this is with my Samsung tablet. The directions say to always plug the power cord into the tablet first and then into the wall, and to disconnect from the wall before disconnecting the power cord from the tablet. However, that cord has a more complicated connector to the tablet than the typical cord that connects into a laptop.

The easiest way to post that email is to copy and paste it. Here's how: Copy all the text: 1. click in the body of the email Select all your text by holding down the command key (or control key on PC) and the A key. 3. Once your text is selected: On a PC, right click and choose copy, or hold down the control key and the C key. On a Mac, control-click and choose copy from the popup menu, or hold down the apple (command) key and hit C This will copy the text to what is called the "clipboard," which holds it in memory for you to paste it down somewhere. Go back to the forum and click in the body of your post. Paste the text into your post: Follow the same steps above, except instead of the C key, use the V key. So control-V, or command V. The text of your email will appear in your post and you can edit it from there. This works anywhere, on just about anything, on your computer. FWIW. (When sending an email or posting on a forum, I always click in my post and (Cmd-A/Cmd-C) copy it to the clipboard before posting, because there's nothing worse than having the board flake out on you after you've just written a long post, leaving you staring at a blank field! That way you can always paste it back (Cmd-V) in if you have to start over. And just an aside note: If you are not familiar with Command-Z (or Control-Z on PC), which undoes the last thing you just did, it will surely save your life more than once.

I will try to post photos tomorrow. I promised a boy that I would quit in the yard today and play whatever game he chose. :)

I too have lovely large mature hosta due to this guy's shenanigans.

Weird seeing him without his overalls.

Read this article from a couple a years ago that I found online, it will give you his name. On our forum, he is Idiothe. He and his wife are wonderful people and their garden is worth a visit. And here is another photo I took in their garden, of a different Victory.

Don't want to violate any GW rules. We sell a few hostas, but we're not a nursery. We have usually a couple of hundred garden visitors a year and visitors are always welcome... it's all about sharing our hosta obsession with other like minds. So along that line, I'll respond as a gardener and someone who welcomes visitors...

I've worked hard to develop and maintain my status as RHOC (Relatively Harmless Old Curmudgeon) and here come folks poking holes in it!

Used to do the motorcycle thing... if I do get back to it, I don't think I'd qualify for Sons of Anarchy... maybe the spinoff series - "Grandpas of Where-did-I-put-my-helmet?!"

Thanks for all the kind words... I read the article and found myself wishing we could go visit those nice folks at their garden... they sound a lot nicer than I am!

Thanks, Don! Was honored this spring when Don Rawson visited... long way from Michigan... I sure enjoyed learning from him! (Not to mention great "garden gifts"... won't mention the hosta as I don't see it in the Hosta Library yet... not sure what Don has told the world about it yet...)

Ken... we visited you during the 2009 AHS Convention tour. I may have complicated things a few years back when I forgot my GW name and password and finally just created new ones... but we've been comparing notes for a long time!

yeah.. i figured.. but visiting in the garden is impossible ... 6 hours 500 faces .... i think i may have mowed you down either at the convention hotel .... or maybe?? ... a hosta college meeting.... somewhere much more personal... or i am mixing you up with some dude who sold JMaples.... with the same 'look' ....
