Midwest Regional Hosta Society Convention

Who is planning to attend the convention next week at Schaumburg, IL? I am really looking forward to touring some of the fabulous gardens of Northern Illinois Hosta Society members in the area. I joined NIHS last year and have not visited any of the tour gardens before. I have visited Rich's Foxwillow Pines where a cookout will be held on Saturday. Rich Eyre has an outstanding collection of conifers and unusual trees. In addition, Rich's mother sells hostas at the nursery and all of the proceeds are donated to Heifer International. I am also looking forward to meeting forum members and, of course, the vendors.

For once my timeing is good - I never ventured to this particular forum before and have never hear of NIHS. Is membership required to tour the gardens? This isn't far from me at all - would love more information.

I believe bus garden tours are organized by convention .I am planning to volunteer for leaf show. Am not sure how individuals who are not signed up for package/ tours, meals/ are going to do it.

Unfortunately we will not be touring private gardens only the B'ham Botanical Garden. Do come out to the convention because we have a great lineup planned and several vendors will be selling lots of hostas and other plants.

Bumping this up.... Chris and Josh we will see you in Des Moines! Still not to late to sign up. After seeing all of Paul's National convention photos (by the way excellent job of sharing photos Paul!), it is making me excited about the convention. Will be working at the registration table, so stop and say hi...:) Also we were going to be on the optional tour, but after mom's sudden passing in late April decided there would not be enough time in the gardens. Well long story short, our neighbor David who is on the optional tour wrote in his article that 'Bruce and Trudy' may share their gardens if you just ask! So I guess we are on the optional tour after all, just not in the program. So stop on by Sunday after the convention....we will be glad to show everyone our hosta seedlings!

Yes, it is possible to attend the convention and not stay in motel. Just make sure to get signed up by using the info at the link. If I am not mistaken a person is able to attend the vendors and not be a paid attendee at the convention. Now dont quote me as I am just a messenger putting the info on the post by request. The leaf show, auction and vendors are open to the public. The dinner and bus tours of the open gardens require registration, however. The link below gives more information including the phone # of the registration chair. I do not know if they are still accepting registrations.

The cookout trip to Foxwillow Pines will be just one of the highlights of the convention package. Rich throws a great party, and even Paul James, the Gardener Guy has shopped there. Hundreds of hosta varieties and conifers will be available.

Is anyone else GW going? This is THE hosta convention, ya know, and a great opportunity for hostatality immersion. Please introduce yourselves to me if you spot my name tag, my blue hosta shoes, and hanging around the Leaf Show.

It'll be good to see you again, Mark, Josh, and Ken. Denny, will you be there? Optional tour at my house in Palatine on Sunday.
