Crown Rot

I bought a hosta at a front-yard "perennial sale" earlier this year, and planted it off to the side. I think it might be "Paul's Glory", but I'm not sure.

Anyhow, it's strange, because we have SO much sand in the soil here, but I must have overcompensated with mulch and additives, because I noticed that it was shriveling up (beyond normal transplant stress), and dug it up, just to see the eye come apart from the root, with obvious crown rot.

It looks like it wants to send up new leaves at the base, but there is little (well, okay, there's NO) root system left.

Is there any way that I can save this plant? I think I paid $3.00 for it, so loosing it is no loss to me, but it's a Hosta damit! lol
