Hostas IN a pond?

Greetings!

I finally have my toad pond (to produce lots of toads to eat the slugs) all set up. Love the sound of the trickling water. Now I need to make it look pretty. On either this forum or the pond forum, someone suggested that hostas were one plant that did very well IN her pond. I did ask over there too, but that person hasn't surfaced.

Has anyone here had any experience with hostas IN a pond? One person on the pond forum suggested removing all of the soil from around the roots and planting it in pebbles in a pot. What do you think? Good idea? I'm new enough to both (hostas and ponds) that I know enough to be dangerous.
