Comments (12)Thanks Teresa, and everyone. All my hostas are leafed out,and now we're expecting another cold night tonight, with a chance of patchy frost! I don't think I will have any trouble, and there's no way I can cover my hostas any more. I'm just going to take my chances. Does this seem like the winter that just won't go away? Keep hanging in there, and hopefully this will be it. Phil...See MoreQueen of the Seas
Comments (6)hmm... can't remember if young QOTS don't show the ruffling... not surprising that the corrugation would be absent, but the ruffling... I just expect more on leaves the size of the wider ones... now that I think of it, I just sold five one-eyed plants, grown from tc... the leaves weren't nearly as distinctive as the adult plant, but they showed some ruffling and the beginnings of corrugation as well......See MoreHave 'Queen OT Seas' and 'N. Comments (7)Clovelly is my favorite of the three choices, but if you don't already have it, Moonlight Sonata would look very distinctive next to more heavily ruffled hostas. It's a beautiful, unique variety, and a good grower. Ginsu Knife is a beautiful plant with lots of ruffling, and Roller Coaster Ride would fit right in too. Pineapple Poll or any of it's offspring--Pineapple Upside Down Cake, Pineapple Juice, Pineapple Punch, and Spiked Punch--have nice wavy edges. You could go with a smaller variety such as Hacksaw, The Razor's Edge, Dragon Tails, Kabitan, Saishu Jima, The Twister, or Electrocution to add a contract in size. If you've got lots of room, either Green Piecrust or Grey Piecrust are spectacular specimen plants. My Green Piecrust is always one of the largest hostas in my garden, last year topping out at 35 inches tall and 6-7 feet across, and it has a lovely edge. Grey Piecrust is a bit smaller but also nice. Choo Choo Train is an excellent hosta, and will also require a good amount of space. Dancing Queen is nicely ruffled as well....See MoreQueen of the Seas
Comments (11)Thank you for the input. I can see how different these two are at maturity. Per Paul's suggestion, I took pictures of the front and back of a leaf. Hopefully you experts out there can tell me which one it is. I do know it's got to be one of the two, as they were the only ones I had planted in that area. We rented out our house for a number of years and the previous tenants didn't water anything and pulled quite a few name tags. Now this one is down to one eye and NOID. *Sigh* Unfortunately, both hostas have a vein count of 11 pairs...so that's not much help.
