Red Sunset Maple Leaves

I have a Red Sunset maple which has wilty looking leaves all the time. The tree was planted 2 years ago and is beautiful in fall but the wilty look is not a plus the rest of the year. Watering helps very little. Any ideas?

Been there - done that.
Are we talking daily, 1-2 buckets or more?
No one told me this tree requires more water than others.
We planted all new trees at the same time, including Crimson King, several pines, etc. We had a very wet summer last year and it looked the same. And was the only one.
Sorry, I think there's something more going on here.

Could be fine. Maples grow in flushes, keep it watered and mulched, wait and see what the current flush develops into. Since plant is growing away nicely now (above the ground, at least), at this stage it seems root deformity would most likely only become a problem many years from now, if it resulted in girdling and constriction. If in doubt expose roots and correct when leaves are off during dormant season.

If it helps, looking at the tree closer, it seems like the damage started at the top of the tree and is progessing down quickly , now almost the whole tree is showing these signs, tree looked normal just couple days ago... I see no cause or abnormalty on the tree leaves or trunk such as insect damage,,, Al

Look for Red Sunset ('Franksred') when searching the web. Maybe it's your site conditions or climate but the typical coloring for this one is florescent orangish red throughout, very bright and on the early side.

I have a row of 5 Red Sunset Maples. There are about 3 years old. They are about 25' tall but I'm worried that their leaves don't look lush, even though they're young, like other (older) Red Sunset trees down the street from me. FYI: Ours are in full sun, theirs are in shade for late afternoon. My trees receive about 7 gal 2x a week via drip and we are thinking of increasing to 3x per week. We live in SF East Bay where summers can be 90's and we of course are in a drought. What are your thoughts regarding the looks of the trees?

Mine drooped for several years after planted, then finally quit doing it. During this time they kept growing.

If the tree has much size to it 1 or 2 buckets of water won't be enough. Dig next to it and look at the soil.

my Red Maple can't get enough water, I can leave a hose going on it for hours a day, several days a week, and it just wants more and more!

I have a Red Sunset that was planted last October. It has wilty looking leaves also and they are a light green color.

Is this just a phase the tree goes through due to transplanting?

Maybe I will try to water it more often.
