Gary and I were talking about Papou last night, and looking at his website and maps. I pointed myself out there in Owatonna, MN, and Gary mentioned I needed moved to Michigan. I guess that won't happen now. I will miss Papou, and the fact that I'm stuck on a map in MN forever has nothing at all to do with the many reasons I will miss him. The map just brings a smile to my face, and so does repreading your poem Marsha.

OMG......I did not know him really, but this map he made is unbelievable as I know a lot of you on them.....Life is just toooooo short. so sad.....sooooo sad.

It is SO WELL DONE, gives evidence to your great creativity and testimony to the 'body' we
have on this forum! He will be, and already has been missed SO MUCH! It's really hard to lose
people who have had such a 'place' in our daily lives, like he has over the past few 'hosta-years'!!

I wanted to find just the right spot for my Liberty in honor of Papou.

I decided on a spot just outside the screened in back porch. I love sitting out there and admiring all the hostas and other plants.

I had to move a few hostas around, but think Liberty will like this little spot in my Universe. It's one of the few areas of my yard that actually gets a few hours of sun in the afternoon.

I will also be able to see it from two of my windows when it gets a little larger.

I think it will be happy with it's neighbors Kossa Regal, Guacamole, Christmas Tree, August Moon, Sun Power, Honey Bells, etc, etc...

I will think of Papou each time I take my 'hosta' walk, which means frequently!

LOVE your placement of the Liberty for Papou - right smack in front of the bed. I'm transplanting one that is in mostly shade to a spot right in front of the house in a new bed - sun 6 hours a day. I will see it every time I go out the front door - and think of him.

...and...LOVE your windowboxes! I NEVER do color because it hurts my eyes (I know, I have a sensory overload issue) but those are gorgeous and are making me think I might be able to put a toe in the water next year.

My wish is for Papou to live on in our gardens and our heart.

I, for one, will look at my Liberty, every day I take a walk through my hosta gardens, year after year, and feel the sheer intoxication of the beauty that unfolds before me.

And, I will smile at the memory of what Papou brought to each us all.

And, yes, westy, window boxes are my second gardening love after hostas...will post in a separate thread. You may want to give it a try. :)

Wow. It's been a long time since I've been on the forums here and Dave's Garden. It was an e-mail I received from Foxfire that led me to look for something on DG where I found sanannie's note about dear, sweet Papou's passing, which absolutely breaks my heart. I have spent a while now here reading through all of these threads with the kind thoughts and special memories so many of us have of Papou and his hostas.

I, too, have fond memories of my short visit with Papou, Therese, and Brenda (wholyhosta). It seems that I was one of the fortunate ones that got to meet him in person, and it was a delightful visit! He and Therese were on their way back home from Florida. There are quite a few hosta nurseries in my area, so he had contacted me to set up a stop here in North Carolina to meet me and acquire some new hostas to take back home. Brenda drove up from Georgia to participate in the fun! I have a Liberty and Choo Choo Train in my hosta bed that were gifts from Papou that day. We got them at Hosta Farm, which is no longer in business. I am going to move those hostas both to a more prominent location and change the names to remember Papou.

I know that Papou has a special place in Heaven, and I look forward to seeing him there one day.

I am glad Angie popped this post back up because I did not see it in July. Marsha thank you for your kind words on this post and the poem, which I will also copy for my garden journal. Communicating with Papou was like experiencing a form of grace in my life and I will never forget him.
