Papou's Birthday July 26th

As stated in an earlier post by Papou's son Eric, they have read our posts and they like the idea of everyone planting a Hosta Liberty, on Papou's birthday July 26, as suggested, would be perfect.

I hope many will take part in this, it will be a way of uniting us all and a tribute to one who has given to everyone over the years and years to come.

If you cannot find a new Liberty maybe we can divide our own and share with others.

How about we all mail a birthday card to him also? Can we get his mailing address? If the family doesn't want to list it publicly, maybe just give it to one person, and we'll all mail the cards to one person. That person can put them all in one envelope to forward.

I pray he lives that long. A couple of days ago his son Eric said he had 2 weeks at the most.

All Hosta people plus any others. Our Papou who has an extensive website on Hosta and has been an invaluable source of information for other gardeners is expected to lose his battle with cancer within the next few weeks. July 26th is his birthday and we hope to get as many gardeners as possible to plant his favorite hosta "Liberty" that day as a tribute to him. Hosta Liberty is a beautiful standout plant and will add a bright spot to anyone's garden. Please join us and plant one in your garden on the 26th. Betty

Papou, Eric, Therese and the entire family, My dad went Home to be with his Lord on July 13, 2003. Dad was born in Canada. Papou, every time you would post it would bring back such pleasant memories of my dad. When dad passed from this life into Life Everlasting, I planted a beautiful yellow Mt. Diasen seedling I had raised. I named it Coronation Day in honor of his Homecoming. I am placing a Liberty next to it in honor of your Homecoming and being set at liberty from pain and sickness. Papou, you will be greatly missed. Thank you for all you shared over the years. I pledge to pray for especially for Therese and also your entire family untill your reuniting with them. I got my card in the mail but he probably won't get it until Monday or Tuesday, and alas! The only garden photo I had handy was of a butterfly on a lantana, not a hosta. But it is more important to be fast now than to be perfect, so even if you don't have a proper birthday card in the house, just drop him a note on whatever you've got. I put $1.25 US postage on mine which was probably overkill even with the enclosed photo, but I wanted it to get there. Hi Guys! Raeanne: Not to be too picky, but I think YOUR name is a different spelling of Juanita! LOL! Dee:We have one of those bands here in Seattle---an old band that's still around called Jr. Cadillac. Ya gotta love the staying power of these old rockers. Well, I am in the throes of foster parent training. A few years ago, I rode the roller coaster of the adoption process with DH before he halted the process at the last minute...ouch! Anyway, that being water under the bridge, we're going to try fostering instead! I have been taking all the training classes and learning a ton. Yesterday, I had the drug-affected babies class. I've taken 33 hours of classes so far and have about 20 more to go. Our family is getting our FBI and fingerprint check next week! Then CPR, HIV/AIDS/blood pathogens and first aid training. After all that, we'll submit the applicationa nd have 2 or more home studies done, then see what happens. It's my purpose in life right now to get this license! I have lost 1 1/2 pounds since I came back to my SS gal pals (and the elusive John). Thanks to you guys, I am eating Uncle Sam's and yogurt for brekky and curbing (sort of-lol!) my nighttime eating. Baby steps! Now, for the exercise part!!!! Well, I have to de-weed my front yard, then I'm off to the ferry line!

Perhaps we can send the birthday cards right away, and plant the hostas on his birthday. Maybe we can insert photos of ourselves with our shovels standing next to the spot where we plan to plant our Liberty Hosta. Just a thought.

It would be an honor to pay tribute to Papou by planting a Liberty hosta in his name in my garden. I have one on order and it should be here this week.

Pam, Lainey, I would very much like to participate in sending a Birthday Card. I know I've only "known" him for the last two years, not near as long as the rest of you but I have also missed him and would like to pay my respect and love.

What about a group eCard? I did a quick Google and they do exist. I know it's not as personal as a card you sign and mail, just throwing it out there. Linked below is one place that does them.

Another option: You can write something on a piece of paper and photograph it in macro mode. (In the example linked, I wrote it on plain paper in a 1.5" tall x 2.5" wide area.) Then, depending on the photo program you have, you can create your own ecard. See link below for what I did with Photoshop. I did this very quickly, just to show an example, so it's not great.

If this becomes an option, keep the photo smallish, the one linked is 600 x 540. Otherwise we could crash the mailbox.

The problem with doing this is that Papou's family would have to print these out, and as we all know, color ink is expensive. I also know that we would be more than willing to send a gift card for a color cartridge or something along those lines to address that issue.

Then again, doing this might create a burden for the family. Just tossing out ideas.

I couldn't afford to get Liberty last year for Papou's birthday, but I've ordered it this year in honor of our dear hosta friend. :-)

Looking forward to it - it will definitely be a new look in my garden.
