I've had ADG for years,and it starts out blue and stays blue most of the year. It looks like Love Pat,but the cups are much deeper. Mine is a little stunted this year due to the freeze,but it will be back next year,as good as ever. A good grower,in MHO. Phil

Mine too. Stays blue all the time. Maybe you've seen photos of it grown in too much sun?

I agree with Phil. I bought mine as a very tiny one-eyed plant in Sept. 2005. It has grown very well for me. Wish they all grew this quickly.
It does collect dirt, and all kinds of leaf debris, however.

Aw...I don't see any dirt ADGs. It is very blue though, isn't it? I love your hosta garden. Very pretty!

So either I asked a very dumb question or this hosta is never green (or both). Those are the two theories I'm taking from this statement.

Well mine doesn't exactly go green,it just gets darker blue,if that helps. Phil

My Abiqua Drinking gourd wasnt growing very fast , only 1 eye still after several years so I moved it and now it"s green with some yellowing on the leaves . Too much sun caused it to loose much of the wax coating. So back in more shade for it. Maybe some your finding have been in too much sun. Brenda

My ADG is not ADG!!!

Heres a picture taken this year and no cupping at all. I know the label said it was ADG. What do you think it is? Any help renaming it would be appreciated.

Ok Connie, We seem to be in the same boat. My Abiqua Drinking Gourd has never cuped. I moved it into morning sun this year expecting it to at least begin to show cupping. I'm finally realizing it was marked wrong. I don't know what it is either. I bought it in 2000. I'm a slow learner! Below are pictures from the last two years

I feel you pain. The only reason I can't check to see what mine looked like last year is my old computer has those pictures in it and it died. I haven't taken the time or $ to have everything removed from it. I got mine in 2003 or so I think cause that was the kind of metal tag I used that year.

I only started taking pictures late last summer when I got my new camera. I like the hosta I just wish I knew what it was. Now I have another blue to find a name for!

As more and more of these posts turn up here on the forum, I'm surprised how often hostas are apparently sold mislabeled.

As far as a green hosta becomming blue... I think if you watch really closely as a blue hosta develops, the fresh growth coming out develops the wax as it matures, so maybe that's what is being refered to as "a green hosta turning blue"

And as Forest Gump's friend finally said "that's about all I have to say about that!"

This ADG grows in almost full sun...strange how it does not seem to be cupped...I have another one in full shade which is deeply cupped.

Unless they were taken from the same plant, I would venture to say the above pic was mislabled. :(

Somebody must have been distributing a mislabeled ADG because all your "supposedly mislabeled plants" look alike!

Check out Abiqua Blue Crinkles on the Hosta Library...looks just like your plants and would probably be an easy mistake for some distributor of TC's to make....
