It would be easier to identify if you would add a close up picture of the stem and leaves.

Hi Gardenguy. I pulled this picture from the internet so I am not able to post closeups of the leaves.

I have a "kagiri nishiki" that is much younger (more than 3 ft.), but in form looks almost identical to this tree. I have found only one other picture of one at maturity.

I can understand how it would be difficult to identify acers without looking at the leaves. I've gone through hundreds of photos, learning different varieties. I am much more interested in acers structure than I am of leaves. It was explained that landscape photos aren't as practical as closeups, especially for nurseries.

Almost any structure can be obtained by pruning. Timing of pruning is also important.
