Why did you put it outside if you're aware of its needs? Yes, it's too cold, and it's too wet even for a Fukien. Throw away that moss - it's helping hold in all the rain, plus I can bet that the soil mix it came in is mostly soggy water holding peat ("potting soil") vs the 50-60% fast draining grit (plus 40% organics) it should be in. Get it inside into very high light (a full spectrum high wattage fluorescent 6 inches above it for 15 hours a day, if possible) and let it start to dry out (at least the top 3/4"). In the meantime pick up some small size gravel for aquariums and a bag of Orchid mix. Break the soft wood in that bag into smaller (1/8") pieces, add them and some of the soil in the bag to the grit so that the grit becomes 60% of it and the O. mix the rest and mix it all up. Then repot, cutting back any roots that are slimy black and/or stinky to clean places. Make sure the new mix is fed in around all the roots leaving no gaps. Then water once and do not leave the pot sitting in the drain water. From then on water when the top half inch is dry - around every two days, but you judge - and give it a few weeks to see if new growth occurs. Seattle rain can be drained off a large tree in the ground, but there are limits to a tiny tree in a tiny pot! When the weather stays above 65 F. let it stay out but with some kind of protection from anything more than a light passing shower (and adjust watering accordingly). When it's living inside, put the pot up on large pebbles in a wide tray of stones and water - the idea is to humidify 24/7 without rotting roots in standing water.

[i would have you mention my name.. but i dont know if it would be a positive.. lol ] .. make an appointment for someone with a golf cart to whisk you around the property .... you might be able to find some out your way also ... google tree farms grand rapids ... the larger the tree.. the more roots you cut off to transplant ... no tree will perform to expectations until it regrows its root mass .. so a larger tree.. will take years longer to recover ... smaller will get 'established' faster .. and can outgrow a larger specimen.. inside 5 years .. not to mention.. if you are doing this yourselves.. how to move.. transport ... carry.. and plant.. a humongous ball and burlap.. sans heavy machinery ... i have tried that.. nearly ended up needing surgery .. not cool ... my dichotomy.. is based on you doing it.. versus big checkbook professional installation ... its not that it cant be done... its what can be done in your budget .... i am impressed you are so far ahead of the curve... usually peeps want instant gratification.. rather than planning a year out ... should you be thinking of doing this yourself.. read.. digest. and commit to memory.. Absolutely nothing wrong with any of the Freeman maples - they are widely planted across much of the country and Autumn Blaze is perhaps the most widely sold and planted maple cultivar in the world. The freemans combine the best features of both species - red maple and sugar maple. Based only on your description and the form of the tree, I'd guess Autumn Blaze as well. Not nearly tightly columnar enough for Armstrong. But it would take an examination of the tree in proper leaf together to be assured of a correct ID.

Your best bet is probably going to be taking the picture to your local dealer and matching it to a chip. The problem with computer monitors is that they will reproduce that picture in many different shades. Having said that, someone will probably post with the exact match! :) Ging
