Hi, I have ordered from Oakes Daylilies and Mariotts Daylilies. If you get on the daylily forum you can find old post with lots of suggestions too. I would also do a search on the web because there might be some small daylily farms near by that you didn't realize was there. Have fun, Judy

I think they will do fine, after planting them water them in good and then don't water any more untill you see signs of life. It may take a couple of weeks, but im pretty sure they will come up. They may look thirsty, but don't do it! Heat + water = rot. Give them some time. My mother gave me some daylily crowns that were all dried up with the roots attached like a rhizome, and I planted them in a pot and they are growing for me now, took a little longer since there were no leaves at all, but they are fine. They probably won't bloom this year, but at least you'll give the roots a chance to get established before winter. Good luck, hope this helps. -Jessica

Very little experience with regard to bareroot plants but curious about soil conditions? As no-fuss as daylilies tend to be I still use similar criteria for plantings/transplantings that I use with any other plant. I usually dig my holes twice as wide and twice as deep what the plant needs and ammend with a mixture of whatever I've got on hand (topsoil/peat/sand/composted mulch--even potting soil) -especially in heavy clay. As for bareroots I tried two packages of 'Crimson Pirate' this spring. Instead of planting in the ground I used two standard black 1/2 gallon nursery pots at about 50/50 potting soil/topsoil. Watered sparcely they've thrived in my driveway getting sun and shade. They'll go in the ground soon, wiith the growth I've seen I'm quite certain they'll thrive next year. (Hope so anyway, I really liked the picture on the packages) As for the refund I'm sure it's up to the vendor's policy. If the specimens looked good upon arrival I'd probably be reluctant to ask. If they looked good enough to plant...Could be the ones that withered away are a dormant variety? Got a little start and waiting for spring to reappear?
