I live in Japan, MO that is. The last area we lived in was Paris( MO again!) Paris is not too far from Mexico and Japan is close to Cuba!!!!! I'm an international gal. (;0)

There is a great Hosta nursery in your area, near Ash Grove, just west of Springfield. Hilltop Farm, owned and operated by Oscar & Amy Cross and family. Have gotten some great Hosta's from them. Website is: hilltop-gardens.com
They have many of the newer ones.also

thank you for the great tip!! the nurseries around here don't specialize in hostas, there was a nursery that had a hosta that I had been looking for for weeks, went to go get it and they wanted 23.00 for ONE EYE!! I was flabbergasted! I know these guys can get expensive but my goodness, at least let me see what I am getting! I will be going and checking them out, much to my husbands horror :)

Sorry to pull up an old post but if you're still here, I wanted Hi to Micke and the other Missourians.
I don't have the best shade trees to garden under but I am TRYING to grow a few hostas here in SW Missouri. It would help if August wasn't so hot and dry.
My shade will be less shady this summer. I had four trees that were completely uprooted in that last ice storm. I'm waiting for the ground to thaw so I can save my Guacamole out from under one of the tree trunks. I'm sure I'll still have enough shade with the trees I have left and less tree roots for competition so maybe this will be a blessing in the end if we ever get it all cleaned up.
I'm posting a link to the Ozarks forum here at Gardenweb. This is what comes up with a search on the word "hostas". Hilltop is a great place to visit and there are some others too. Close Park Gardens in Springfield has a hosta garden.

Oh I am still here, I go over to the Ozark forum every once in a while:) I am fairly close to Springfield (I live right off of I-44) I want to get down there this year and see what they have:)
you must have gone through that horrible ice storm too, I was lucky we had a huge branch from a tree come down right on one of my smaller hosta gardens, it was not laying directly on top of them though, when we moved it off my garden was fine *whew* some of the branches that fell were stuck in the ground, looked kind of comical!

Micke there are lots of hosta/shade garden lovers in Southwest Missouri. You can visit us at the link below. We get together several times a year and anyone is welcome to our meetings/outings and it does not matter if your a member or not. Yes I am over at pets too. My animals and my hostas my two favorite things (well after hubby and kids:) oh and then my houseplants, my winter obsession:)
I must be a lucky person, I just realized I love a lot of things, used to not be that way. noxtra, thank you for the link, I bookmarked it. I probably won't make it down there this week however, have alot going on, and with this weather, I won't stray too far from the house. so tired of all the ice and the rain and the rain and the ice:)

Hey there, fellow Missouri hosta addicts! I'm in the Kansas City area. I have relatives in Joplin, and my uncle used to live in Carl Junction.

I'm thinking about making a jaunt down to Hilltop this spring. You're lucky that you're fairly close.

I had to laugh at your comments about hiding in the restroom and digging up some hostas! Sounds like something I'd be tempted to do!
