Master Gardener Website???

Anyone have suggestions about what to have and not have on a county Master Gardener website? We're starting one up and would love suggestions, lessons learned, etc.

Look at the Coshocton County Master Gardeners website. We have lots of info that you might like to use on yours. It is easier to type the name above into a search engine than to give you the address.

Bec, Welcome to Oklahoma and to the forum, and to gardening as well. I've linked a massive weed database for you. Click on the link below and it will take you to it. Once there, you can look through the various webpages to find one that has what you're looking for. It is not too late to plant seeds of warm-season flowers. It probably is a little late for seeds of cool-season flowers. If you want to list the seeds you're interested in, we can give you feedback on each variety. Good luck with the weeds. And, do be careful. Spring means the snakes are out and about, if indeed, poisonous snakes are a problem in your area like they are in ours. Oklahoma Gardening Calendar

Good Morning Snowbishop, Thanks for the kind words about the fall gardening post. If such a circular gardening calendar exists specificallly for Oklahoma, I have never seen it. However, I have only lived here since 1999, and I am way down south in Love County, so it could be that such information exists in printed form somewhere and that I just haven't seen it. Maybe someone else is aware of this info being available and will post it for us. This type of information does exist, though, and most of it can be found in the OSU Factsheets, but I have never seen it gathered together in one publication. If the Master Gardener program has a big book that everyone gets when they take the Master Gardener course, the info might be pulled together in it. I don't know. Steve Dobbs may have such a calendar in one of his books? This information might exist in some form on the Tulsa Master Gardener's website. I have a calendar in my head that I follow, based not only on my experiences since moving here, but on my decades of gardening in Texas. For me, the 85 mile difference between our home here, and Fort Worth, where I lived and gardened for my first 39 years, is not a significant one. I have had to adjust the garden calendar in my head only very slightly to account for our spring nights being a little colder a little longer here, and our last spring freeze date being a week or so later here. If you haven't checked out the Oklahoma State University Fact Sheets at the pods database, you should look at them sometime. They are full of solid informtion from the extension service, backed up by university research. I can't imagine that there is any topic in horticulture, home landscaping, or agriculture that is not addressed in one extension service publication or another. The Noble Foundation also has lots of great info on its website. I have linked the pods general index below. Just click on a category and it will list all the related factsheets. Yes, Gayle, I do. But I had so many twigs down, and didn't want to loose any potential "baby bugs", that I just sent them with the regular garbage pick up. So far, I haven't burned anything in my fire pit at this house. Moni

The Michigan State Master Gardner's page has a nice "You Might Be A Master Gardner If ... page.

These are sayings posted from people in the same vein as the David Letterman Top 10 List. There are many more than 10 that include sayings like, you might be a master gardner if
...your wedding ring spends more time on the ledge above the sink than on your hand.
or
...youÂre shoveling snow out of the flower beds in late fall/early winter so you can plant just one more batch of spring bulbs!

...you once blinked and missed summer.
or
...your hands are clean when you leave the house but by the time you get to work there is dirt under your nails. How did that happen?

...you can't see why no one makes "I Brake for Garden Centers" bumper stickers.

...you pack two friends in the front of a pick-up, drive 35 minutes to a great plant shop, fill the 8 ft pick-up truck full and the front of the cab, barely seeing anyone but the driver and then head to another plant shop, just in case they have something you REALLY need!

Our Master Gardener site is very well done. It is updated frequently and has great pictures and links; however, I am always jolted when I go to the site because the webmaster has included "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" to burst forth upon opening the home page. It is VERY loud. If you include sound, be gentle!
