Advice on hybridizing spider lilies.

So it appears that my spider lilies made a few open pollinated seed pods this year.

I need advice on growing these. I assume the seed is a scale like other lilies and amaryllis? Will they sprout immediately and survive winter or do they sprout in spring?

If I have any luck with these what other species should I use to try making interspecific (or intergeneric) hybrids?

Knowing that these are in the amaryllis family and that A. belladonna is promiscuous has anyone tried hybridizing with amaryllis? It would be fun to expand the list of amaryllis hybrids.

A. belladonna x Nerine sarniensis (Jersey lily) = Amarines

A. belladonna x Brunsvigia = Amarygias

A. belladonna x Crinum Lily = Amarcrinum

A. belladonna x Sprekelia = Hippeastrellia

Assuming I'm on the same page and these are Lycoris then they are summer dormant so now is the time to plant. They flower in the fall and then grow leaves after that so you can see leaves any time there is no snow in the winter. They go dormant when it gets hot at the start of summer again. I sort of goofed and put the ones I got with white flowers out back many years ago and they do not get enough sun and so rarely flower for me.....guess I should dig them up and move them. Not all species of this are hardy to real cold temps, but I assume yours are since you bought them locally. They are pretty flowers :o) Dan

I would like a bunch of spider lily bulbs and can send lilium bulbs [small and not yet blooming so may be asiatic, oriental, orienpet or trumpet (least likely)]. I also can still dig hyacinthina hispanica in pink and blue, Darwin hybrid tulips 'Gudoshnik' (these perennialize here), maybe chionodoxa (pink), gladioli (unknown but I do have a lot of Priscilla growing where I would dig, plus one that's soft yellow with orange, one that's soft yellow and elsewhere that I can dig are a lot of white). I don't know for sure, but I'm wondering if dependable blooming in hot climates like ours depends on the species or the particular combination of the species they were hybridized from. "Lycoris is a genus of 13Ã¯Â¿Â½20 species of flowering plants in the family Amaryllidaceae, formerly often treated in the family Liliaceae. They are native to eastern and southern Asia in Japan, southern Korea, eastern and southern China, northern Vietnam, northern Laos, northern Thailand, northern Burma, Nepal, northern Pakistan, Afghanistan, and eastern Iran."
