White fuzzies on my lily stem???

Can you tell me what the white fuzz is on my lily stem. At first I thought it was a spider sack, then saw it is in a couple of the nooks between the leaves on the stem. If you look at the leaves it also seems to be on the tips. I am new to lilies. I don't know what particular lily this is as it hasn't bloomed yet. We inherited it from my home's previous owner. Thank you!

mealy bugs..you can squish em with your fingers, ..but be warned they hop. or you can spray them with insecticide..or a home remedy. I just sprayed some spider mites today with soapy water..heard that was supposed to work for all those lil critterrs..we'll see tomorrow if they are back..I dont know if they were jumping off just from being sprayed or dropping dead or what.
Anyway..Those clumps you see are eggs.
The fan tailed ones are actually kinda pretty if you look at them. I find them dead in my swimming pool by the dozens the last couple days. kinda gross.
You need to treat them before it gets too bad..last year they destroyed my clematis cuz I didnt take care of them fast enuf. Good luck.

Yikes! Thank you for letting me know!!!! I will get my trusty spray bottle out first thing. Soapy water it is! I have lots of things for them to jump to around there! Black Raspberries and clematis too!

What you are describing are classic symptoms of blights associated with poor drainage or excess moisture. What type of potting soil are you using and how often are you watering? If your potting soil is overly saturated, as it appears to be, you may find it most efficient to repot with fresh soil and new plants, as the berries may be fully compromised by root rot. And cut back on the watering! Different potting soils will retain moisture at different rates so watering on any kind of schedule can create problems. Water only when the soil is dry down to length of your finger when you stick it in the pot.

White cottony stuff could be a fungal disease like Botrytis. It does no good to spray a herbicide unless you know you are combating a bug infestation. If you can't get a pic posted, you could try searching for pics that match your problem, or get someone local to diagnose the problem like from a good nursery, or cooperative extension. Hi Jim, If you are giving the plant sun/water and it does not show signs of another blight on its leaves... my thought is that it is showing signs of soft rot. Unfortunately, there is not much you can do for the plant. Due to the leaves still appearing healthy it may be early in the progression of the disease. You could try a fungicide to address the issue, but it may be easier to just start over with a new plant. -Brian

thanks pardalinum, i think Asiatic lilies is what i have. it's got hairs/fuzz like that. sandcrab, your probably thinking of white mealy bugs: small white furry plant parasites, not part of the plant. as for the leaning maybe your lilies need support? my tall lilies usually lean but it's the whole plant that leans not just the tip.
