Have you looked very closely in the top of the foliage? They tend to hide in the creases of the very top leaves. But after three years I would think you should have bloom. Are they getting enough sun? Six hours or more would be optimal. What kind of spring have you had so far? Ours has been chillier than usual and my lilies are running behind schedule!

They sure sound like they like their spot. What about fertilizer? Have you given them some bonemeal? The Bonemeal helps plants flower. There are other fertilizers out there that are for "Blooms". Try one of those & give it soon & again next spring early just as the Stargazers are showing new tips. You should be having nice big flowers since the plant is in it third yr. My Stargazers have no buds yet but it is still early for mine. In my zone they bloom in July. Good Luck

I'm having the same thing happen to my stargazer. It's not quite as tall yet, only about 28 inches, but it's showing no signs of buds. I know they're prolly tucked down way down in the top leaves, hiding, but right next to it, maybe 18 inches over, is a Cat The Great lily, which sprouted a baby stalk (mother and baby shoot pictured), and is all budded out.

Lily height varies a great deal depending on weather and garden placement - so it isn't a good indicator of bloom number. (Commercial potted lily growers tightly control conditions to favor a short strong stem.)

I'm in zone 7 and my Stargazers have only just started to get buds even though they are also about 3.5' tall. (The buds are QUITE tiny and hidden away under the very newest leaves.) The same is true for my Siberia and Marco Polo lilies. All three of these are Orientals which bloom in late summer.

My L. Regale and Elegant Lady (earlier blooming trumpet and Longiflorum lilies) are well budded out. At the far end of the spectrum, my Speciosum Rubrum lilies, (very late blooming), don't have any buds at all yet.

The "Catherine the Great" lily in the previous post is an Orienpet which, thanks to the Trumpet part of its heritage, generally blooms earlier thant the Orientals. (Lucky you Todd you got a two-fer! They should be beautiful when they bloom.)

So I'm not surprised that in zone 5 you aren't seeing any buds on your Stargazers yet. As long as their tips didn't get damaged (like some of mine that got munched by slugs, @#$%!!! ) you should be fine.

Well, at least they are not only 1ft tall like mine. They look so small, but its their first year and my idea of how tall the lilies should be is warped by the older lilies they are next to. But be patient, I had this other Oriental lily grow to 3 ft before it developed blooms, I was very impatient but now the buds are huge and are about to pop.
So, just hang in there! I'm sure they'll be fine, especially if they receive good sun light and have some fertilizer.

Hmm short stalks. Talking about stalks, my day lilies are in bud stage some stalks are about 2 ft, some as high as almost 5 ft high. The tallest only now just forming buds, the short ones look to have 7 to 12 buds per stalk. Huge difference in stalk heights, not sure why, all are in a row along the back fence and it dosen't seem to matter if they are multiple or single fans. I was surprised to see stalks on the transplants from last year. I moved one from under an oak that had 12 fans, that had never bloomed in 4 years, now 6 of those 12 will be blooming. Guessing the most mature of the 12 i moved. Always thought lilies didn't like to be moved and could take 2 years to bloom.

Daylilies are very easy to move, or have been for me. I have moved some in my yard & they bloomed later that same year. Some I moved very late last fall have been the first daylily to bloom this spring, but oddly, those daylilies have always been lavendar & red, both are yellow now & the flowers are growing down in the leaves. I am assuming this is due to their trauma & they will be okay next year. I normally divide my daylilies in early spring, & they seem to bloom. Maybe I am just lucky.
