I feel for you.
I lose that many if not more, in addition to heuchera, tiarella, assorted bulbs of lilies, tulips, daffodils, you name it.

I, however, lose them to anonymous voles.
It's so depressing, isn't it?

But I've spent the last month on eBay and have replaced almost all I've lost. Now, I'm buring them in Mole-Med and wire baskets.

I feel your pain also. I lost that many and probably more. I have lots of name tags gathered together and I won't count because it is too depressing. I also lost perennials and ferns that were here for several years. Have I mentioned the 11 Japanese maples that are history? Then I have the JM's that are struggling to come back but won't be a pretty tree is my lifetime.

Along with the losses, I have the hosta that were turned to mush and have come back but they are about 1/4 their normal size. The hosta that were smart and came up late were hit with a hail storm a week ago and now have holes or are shredded. Daylilies that are blooming on short scapes with very low budcounts and a few of those that also commited plantacide this year. And yes, we are in a drought to help with the recovery.

I hope I made you feel better because I am now depressed - lol! At least I am not a farmer and don't make my living fighting with the old girl. She always wins.

Wow, highjack. The frost really did some damage!
I have some burned JMs, and realized I also have some day lilies with low scapes, but hadn't realized the latter was frost. But you're lower than I and probably had everything come out earlier.

I had rabbits make their way along about 600' of fenceline. They chewed every branch on every thing that was small enough to get into their rotten little mouths. They snipped almost 120 of my 138 JMs down to just above their grafts. I was too heartbroken to even cry. Luckily, every single one of those has come back. Everything is just time, isn't it?

Why do we do it?
Ok, I know why, but I just had to moan a little.

I had some winter losses this year too, most of these appeared to just dry up and rot. I lost:

Celestial (half was in the ground, half was in a container in the garage, both dried out and rotted)

Guess I started a depressing thread!!!! I cheered up when I read your list of new purchases, picturing each one in my mind.
I forgot about the JM that bit the dust. One other finely leafed tree was broken off, but I taped it and wrapped a rubber band around it. Then I propped up the remaining leafed out branch up so that it would grow more upright. Maybe it will survive. JMS can be contorted I think.
I'm waiting for the dag gon deer to show up since the 'PUPPY" ate all the irish spring soap I put around to deterr the deer.

I lost Blue Shadows but it has gotten progressively smaller for the past 3 years so I wasn't surprised. Everything that was damaged by the April freezes has recovered and is doing great.

Von - glad I made you feel better - that was my intent. It was a strange winter and spring.

Christine I didn't have frost. I had six nights in the low 20's with highs in the mid 30's and a 25 mph wind blowing creating a wind chill on the foliage of the trees/shrubs. As a bonus during that week, one inch of snow. Amazing what a hosta looks like in the snow. The leaves don't melt with snow on them, they wait until the snow melts.

Do not ever agree to have your garden on a tour. Disaster will strike and teach you humility.
