About 10 years ago I bought 6 roots from an eastern catalog. By the time I learned what they need here in our dry California climate, I was down to only one. It is growing well with the plant getting larger every year, but still only producing one blooming stem. It grows to about 5 feet tall and takes about one month to complete its bloom. I have never seen them in anyone's garden here, or for sale in the local nurseries. To make a statement I think you need at least 5 and ten would be better. Al

Seems like I just answered a question very similar on another forum, but...2 years ago I bought yellow, pink & white. Last spring of 5 white bulbs, 5 came up, but 1 died back soon. A couple bloomed, but I wasn't impressed. This year all 5 came up & bloomed, they were fairly tall, at least 5', nice fat blooms that lasted a long time in the spring. They also looked like they had doubled, some having 2 blooms per stalk. Of 4 yellow, 2 have survived, & bloomed each spring. They aren't much over 2' tall, very pretty, but doesn't draw nearly the attention as the white. Of 3 pink, 1 spindly stalk has come up ea year, but has yet to bloom. I'm not holding my breath that it will come up next year. They are all planted in similar conditions, it might be possible I planted some a bit deeper than others though.

First, despite the common name, Eremurus are NOT lilies but fleshy rooted perennials. And they need very well drained, almost sandy soils and a fair amount of sun. The starfish shaped roots are quite brittle so need care when handling. I am also not sure if these will be hardy for you - usually listed to only zone 5 and will require a good winter mulch in that zone.

I tried growing them in Atlanta. I only got one bloom, and they never came back. I tried several times. They need sandy soil and, I think, more cold than we get. This is a very difficult plant to grow. They also need dry periods which we do not get.
