I'm so hooked on hostas.

Did some more shopping today and picked up;

Empress Wu

Red October

Great Expectations (was torn between this and Paul's Glory, but this plant looked better)

City Lights and

Lemon Juice (toss up between this and one of the Tiaras, I probably should have gone with the Tiara, huh?)

When you can't decide, then get both.....that way you save money by not having to make a second trip.

Yep, Paul is right. I have learned that it saves so much time when you just get both right at the start. ;)

If you'd like a shorter one, Austin's Munstead Wood is my new favorite--vivid color, 3 ft tall, disease resistant, good rebloomer, and fragrant: Munstead Wood In a more delicate shade of light pink, the Bourbon rose Mystic Beauty (nearly identical to Souvenir de la Malmaison) grows about 4 ft tall, is fragrant, disease-resistant, and has a gorgeous bloom. Mystic Beauty Another one of my other favorite new Austins is Lady of Shalott--apricot/gold/buff (sometimes a touch of pink) blooms, fragrant, disease-resistant, about 3.5 - 4 ft tall. When my son was in 2nd grade he had a teacher that had created this "take care of your own behavior" kind of thing. She would team the kids up, count points etc. use yellow and red cards. At the end of the week if you had no red cards you were considered a "Mello Yellow" and she'd have all those kids up to the front and play the beatles song while they danced around. The joke of it was the team group who had emassed the most points on friday be allowed to bring in snacks (supposedly healthy) with drinks and eat them in front of the other kids all day long!!! Absolutely the wrong idea on many levels if you ask me. She'd hand out candy as they danced around to the mello yellow song! (So much for mello, sugar them up and send them home to us). So my son wanted to be on the winning team in the worst way. Every Thursday they'd find out if their team won. It was a sad Friday and frustrating when he didn't win. He had to sit there and watch the other kids eat all day and they were not allowed to share. Well, soon his team won. I sent baby carrots, apples etc. Some other kids parents sent garbage to eat. Many times my "good food" would come back home. Many times she supposedly sent the non allowed food home. The irony was when every Friday she handed out candy to the mellow yellow's. So much for do as I say... Anyway, near the end of the year, we were at a big nursery and I sent my son around to smell the roses and report back, since I won't buy a rose unless it smells good. He ran back a while later as I was 3 rows over and dragged me to what he had found. We left that day with a Mello Yellow rose for his teacher. She got a big kick out of it. DH got me potting soil for Valentine's Day and he's bought me at least half a dozen big bags of it when I needed it. I'm done with winter sowing but will still need the potting soil for planting my late broccoli and cauliflower seeds and for putting in hanging baskets and pots outside. We get it at a local nursery and he just brought 3 bags home the other day. I wondered why he got that many since he usually gets one or two at a time. He said they were on sale and he knew if he only got one bag, he'd have to go back a week or two later and buy more. :) Even though more money has gone into my gardening than I had planned this year, I think DH realizes that with my vegetables we will save much more than what I spent on potting soil, seeds, and a few other supplies. I just looked at the produce at the grocery store and for just 3 red beets that are each about 2" in diameter at the most, they want $2.99 for those! :-O Snow peas are $5.78/lb. Sheesh! By planting veggies here this year, I know that we'll save hundreds of dollars and I feel really good about that. I've been digging sod out with a trowel to make the vegetable garden and as I get it dug up DH then takes the shovel and turns the ground over and chops it up. I go over it then and chop it up more and take out the stones. So far I've planted sugar snap peas and lettuce. Next on the agenda is carrots and red beets, then beans, peppers, and tomatoes. DH doesn't really say it, but I think he's happy that I'm planting veggies. He loves salads! I am surprised that he hasn't even complained at all about helping me. It is a lot of work.

Yup, lots of fragrants for the backyard. Have been accumulating them slowly. These will go along with the Royal Standards, Adorable, Fried Green Tomatoes, Honeybells, Fried Bananas, Guacamole, Stained Glass, So Sweet, Summer Fragrance, Fragrant Bouquet, Holy Mole and Cathedral Windows already out there. Going to connect two patio beds but not looking forward to moving 10-12 year old Big Daddy and Good As Gold to make way for all fragrants. Big Daddy has outgrown his space so needs to be moved anyway. I'm not sure that it will all get done this year...may put some of it off until spring. Being next to the patio, it's an area when a lot of snow gets piled so I'm a little nervous about putting fall plantings there...worrying about slow melt (pine tree shade) and too much moisture next spring. However, the area is above the grade of the patio and I have really sandy soil. Glad to hear a good report on All That Jazz; I've never actually seen one. I've been debating between it and Journey's End; Green Mtn. didn't have JE so Olga's hosta won out. JE & Old Faithful will be my first Olga hostas. I'm excited about both of them!

We practice what we enable others to do. I was at Cochato Nursery today and picked up the following:

Atlantis (I needed a bigger one)

It has been raining. I have 28 hostas coming in the mail. It is only Saturday at 10:30pm. I am in serious trouble. Rain 65% for tomorrow.

When in doubt buy. Never have buyers remorse. It is such a waste of time and the growing season may be short. Have a great grow day, Paula

This is funny I was thinking this last night, after returning from Riverbend gardens with three more. Really gorgeous mature hostas everywhere. This forum is a bad influence on me. All together this month I have added 8 which for my budget is big. So far this year I added a mouse,cherry berry, sum and substance, stain glass, rainforest sunrise, hanky panky, Allen fog, olive bailey. Can't imagine planting 28! But my wish list gets longer each time I go to new nursery.

That 'Atlantis' is like 'Abba Dabba Do', in looks and fast growth, have fun.

The 'Cherry Berry' is also fast, but much lower mound, which confounded my 'planning of our 'Horseshoe Bed', since all the others were so much taller, it looks out of place.

Not sure how I will deal with that yet.

Make sure olive baily will have lots of room, it can get WIDE!

We've not a lot of luck with 'Stained Glass', but it's progeny 'Cathedral Windows', with plenty of light, is tetraploidy STRONG and more vibrant.

We too have oft wished we'd gotten the 'questionable' one, but then again, sometimes those haven't worked out so well, so it seems a gamblers trade-off.

Steve, your list sounds great _ I love anything with a piecrust edge so can't wait to see your Piecrust Promise!

Paula, planting 28 plants is a zumba workout in my book, you get cheesecake for dessert today!

Enabler Paul, I'm not one to assess blame, but your pictures (like that little vignette of Clifford's Comet that you recently posted) have big time fed this sudden addiction of mine...just sayin'.

The hostas I purchased were $8.00 each, not a bad price? Still thinking about that Tiara though.

I also have a 'call the neighbors' moment. My Frances Williams has developed a new leaf...that makes 5!

I admit it...I am addicted too and just can't seem to stop from buying more. I just went to a local nursery and bought 4 more hosta today. That makes a total of about 20 new ones this year. I really should quit looking at all of your beautiful pictures! Today I picked up:

Liberty
Niagara Falls
Krossa Regal
Sea Fire

And a nice Japanese Forest Grass for good measure!
