This is for a survey to see how well it grows in other places.

If it grows well say "yes" if not say "no". More comments are welcome. Give your state and zone.

Yes- SW Ohio Zone 5b - Grows and increases well but stalks are short. Bloom count is short also. Gorgeous bloom. I saw a bloom stalk here that was set at Kepples. Stunning!!!

Yes, ...............kinda.
Increase slow, short fans, sparse branching and flowering.
However as I write this I did an experiment on one of my SEAPOWER plants this summer. Surrounded it with ground bark and peatmoss and fed it rhododendron and azalea fertilizer. It's showing vast improvement over the other 2 plants out in the open beds. I'd forgotten i had this clump in another spot. Can anyone explain this to me?

My first Sea Power rotted in the pot over the winter, but then several others did also. The next rhizome I bought was nice and plump and I put it in enriched soil where it grew wonderfully. Bloomed this May, the spring after planting. Huge blooms, but only 1 stalk. Very nice color. I was careful to keep leaves off it as I wasn't sure the rot in the first one was from the potting or what. Other plants in that bed multiplied more than Sea Power did. We had the coldest winter in 10 years last winter, but still it only got down to 0 once. We didn't have much snow cover, and always have wind, every season. The blues by Keppel and Blyth seem to do fine for me here. Walter Moores' plants get huge also!

Things in loaf pans are generally not suitable for convection baking because the sides of the pans prevent the heat from circulating around the item you're cooking. Convection works best when the heat can surround the item - roasts are a good example where convection works really well. Also, reduced temperatures and times are a GUIDELINE for convection and it's usually one or the other - in my gas convection oven I generally keep the temperature the same and things take less time - but things like cookies that bake quickly won't get done any faster - they'll just bake more evenly.

Stalks in the 33 inch range. Robust grower for me. Not quite as robust as Fogbound, but robust.

Overall yes, MT, zone 4b.

I've only had it in my garden for 2 years now, but overall its done quite well. Smaller rhizomes than some, but it has spread pretty good and the bloom is beyond gorgeous. Definately one of the nicest ones I've ever seen.

way upstate NY. YES. I got 5 blooming stalks from 2 rhyzomes. However the stalks were short at 18"+ -. It is great looking but my 2 favories are DYNAMITE and HELLO DARKNESS. Those are just WOWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes it grows wonderfully but after two years it still has not bloomed.

South NJ, Delaware river area zone 7, no bloom first year, many large beautiful blooms but on short stalks last year and one or two large but still short this year and looks on the bad side since drought.

Checklist shows SEA POWER to be registered at 38". Now that is some stalk. Anybody every see it that tall? People keep saying 18".

MIAH JANE from Tom Parkhill is similar to SP. It has all of the bells and whistles and gets up to the registered 36" height when it is in bloom. It has 'killer' branching.

Another not quite so ruffled as SP but just as good also comes from Tom. It is called PURE SAPPHIRE. It is the most carefree grower and bloomer of the blues in this color range.

These were in bloom at the Memphis convention but were probably not rated so highly because people don't know Tom Parkhill. He has produced some phenominal irises. MIAH JANE was a runner up to the President's Cup at Memphis. He should have won, but another plant won on a sympathy vote. MIAH JANE was the best iris at the Memphis convention. I think it won an HM but has been quietly forgotten, which is sad.

He has ads in the AIS Bulletin but like many others is ignored because he is not one of the big boys. A finer, more iris knowledgeable man you'll never meet.

The most recent issue of TALL TALK had an article on lesser known hybridizers. Of course, Tom, even with his near win in Memphis, was not mentioned, but some who have been introducing before Tom were listed.

It must be climate or soil or something. I believe that some iris with more Aril blood in them may favor alkaline soil etc. I remember mentioning to Barbara Aitken that I had been rather disappointed with Expose' based on what I had seen. She said that they had just returned from a show in the Spokane area in which it was just gorgeous. I have seen Miah Jane at Aitken's and wasn't at all impressed with it. I remember a light blue iris of Parkhills a few years ago that I liked, but I have a lot of blue iris in my garden.

Funny thing MIAH JANE is out of Breakers x Tide's In, two Schreiner irises, so it is Schreiner's through and through. It should love living in Silverton and its environs.

PURE SAPPHIRE is about three quarters Schreiner blood.

Definitely irises with aril blood prefer alkiline soil, but the irises in question, if they had any aril blood at all, would have had it bred out long ago.

Expose' and Explicit are probably in-bred.

What really surprises me about inbreeding is the growth of RING AROUND ROSIE and her sisters. I never would have believed it. Maybe, the inbreeding works there because of such strong parents as Edna's Wish and Wild Jasmine. These two irises are relatively 'old,' having come out in the eighties but they are still being used and are producing great irises.

I sure agree with you on Ring Around Rosie and her sisters. They are almost weedy. I wonder if Breakers and Tide's In are from the standard Schreiner blues. Neither of those have ever found their way on my want list.

Back in NE Ohio, zone 5b, No. Minimal increase, short stalk (around 18"), few buds (4, maybe 5). Very pretty flower, but not Dykes material in my experience with it. Maybe it will fare better here in IL...
