Schreiners rocks...Woodlands doesn't

I've been trying to get help from Woodlands getting id's of their misfills (28% of my 2003 order). I've gotten no response this year from sending photos (two months ago) or e-mail.

Last week I contacted Schreiners because I think one of them is their Starlight Express instead of Starship Enterprise. They got right back to me - it's a discontinued iris for them. So they went through old catalogs and cut out a picture and description and mailed it to me today.

(It is Starlight Express)

I didn't even buy it from them and they couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. I'm very impressed with them.

Wow, Neil. What a bummer! I got Enterprise this year from BlueJ. When it multiplies enough I get you a piece if you don't mind waiting again.

Too bad Neil! I love Schreiners' Iris, they are more pricey but they have GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE. I make sure to order from them every year!

What hath that enabling Aliska wrought here lol? Look at all those vids I missed! Good job finding them and posting the links, will try to watch as many as possible. I'm rather new to iris, and last year got an insert in my gilberthwild catalog for Cooley's and wanted to order some but things got away from me and just got two from Am Meadows instead. I don't know how I managed to remember the name and think to look on youtube. Some crazed poster (no offense intended) alerted me to the joy of Siberians. Ha ha. Now I'm getting an order ready after just ordering a few more bearded iris from Wild's. I know they don't have the best rating, but I've had pretty good luck with them so far. P.S. (ducking). I don't plant mine 2' apart, planting spots are at a premium in my small yard. So my punishment is that I have a huge clump that are too big for where I put them and will have to divide them. I think I'll put them all where it doesn't matter so much and move something a little less robust but colorful there. Nobody told me when I started all this craziness that I'd not only be planting things, but digging half of them up and moving them around.

Hello everyone! I'm a newbie and have been lurking. I just ordered some irises from Schreiner's Summer Sale last night. I can't wait to get them!!!! Don't forget the free bonus iris they offer when you order! I only ordered a few... it was so hard deciding which ones. I could easily spend a fortune! My final choices were Champagne Waltz~ a beautiful yellow and white bicolor, City Lights~ a breathtaking rich blue-violet with white and lemon yellow, Live Music~ (another bicolor) with peachy pink standards and rose pink falls, Romantic Evening~ bitone lilac with dark red violet falls and bright orange beards (itÂs very striking!) , Sea Swells~ rich marine blue with a splash of white, Sheer Ecstasy~ raspberry rose with tangerine beards (yum!), and my freebie .. KeizerÂs Heritage~ they describe it as a light bluebird blue with pristine white standards and white around the edges. Anyway, I had to share my excitement with someone!!! Yeah... IÂm so excited!!!

I have been introducing irises since 1977 and no longer grow many of the earlier ones. Form, substance, color have all been greatly improved over the years and continue to improve. I would rather give space to the newer, more exciting things that are showing up iris patches everywhere. A plain yellow self like Ola Kala or Zantha just doesn't excite me anymore, but I do not condemn those who admire the aforementioned. To each his own. I would like to see someone hybridize 'spider' irises. Retain the narrow form, but make the falls flare and the standards remain upright and not flop open. Some I hybridized in Texas did not perform well in MS and I got tired of struggling with them to keep them alive, so I let them go. Walter Moores

Thanks. If you guys haven't traded with Roni, you need to contact her next year. She's the greatest.

Last year Woodland was helpful with the misfills that had bloomed last year, but as more of them are blooming for the first time I'd still like some help. I'm not even asking for replacements. And if they're really busy, just an acknowledgement that they'll get to me when they can.

Don't forget jain! She rocks too---right up there with the big boys.

I've just gotten started with Denise and Roni and was well pleased.

Ok my turn to gush.

Neil is excellent and very dilligent with making sure his trades are accurate as this post attests.

Jain and Denise are excellent saleswomen and iris experts.

Walter is a hybridizing genious...I just acquired Confederate Royalty but am looking for Purgatory, so if anybody's got P, I'd love to have a piece. Can trade or Postage for one. (See Neil, I am seriously still looking...LOL)

i was told that woodland iris farm plants iris alphabetically.
go to their catalog and find the iris you bought, check out the listings before and after for a possible description to the noid that you received.
i was able to positively id one of their mislabeled iris. once i did that and told them, they sent a correct (hopefully) replacement.

Thanks, Jeanr. That's how I was able to narrow down my Starship Enterprise to Starlight Express. But it took Screiners to send me a picture to confirm.

Roni- I may have Purgatory. It was part of the 2003 order mentioned above and hasn't bloomed yet. So at the moment, we have a 30% chance it isn't Purgatory.If you don't get it before next year let me know and maybe mine will have bloomed.
