Help identify an odd sort of iris???

I was given an iris plant about 4 years ago, and given the instructions that when it bloomed, it would give off new shoots from where the blooms had been - right from the leaves - sort of like a spider plant has off-shoots. So, this Spring, it has now had 2 blooms, first one, opened for a day, closed up that night, and that was it. Then another came within a couple days, from the same place, and opened the same way and closed up the night. Within a few days, we could see that some green things were emerging, and now, after about 2 weeks, we have what looks like a new little iris plant grow there toward the top of that leaf, from where the bloom had been. We do not know how to care for this plant, and would like some information, if anyone out there might have some idea about it! The leaf is getting very top-heavy! Thank you very much!
