Newly planted Limelight standard - any special care needed?

I'm not one to winter protect, but will concede to "babying" over the first winter.

I know the paniculatas are pretty tough, but this standard I bought took a bit of a beating over the summer, I actually thought I may have lost it there for a while. It lost a lot of leaves, and what was left wilted terribly, got some leaf burn (not sure if too much fertilizer or too much sun), and just looked pretty sad. It seems to still be alive - I snapped off a small twig and it is healthy green inside.

I've kept well-watered through the fall, and I mulched with a couple inches of leaf litter, but I'm wondering if there is anything else that needs to be done to help this poor little tree make it through the winter. It's pretty close to the house, so won't get too much wind whip (protected by the house to the north of it).

Any advice for me? Or should I just leave it be...
