Iris and daylilies grow with flat 'fans' of leaves - instead of just getting larger and larger, the plant makes new fans of leaves. So when you divide the plant, you just separate the 'fans'. WW

The first one is Carolina laurel cherry -- Prunus caroliniana. A beautiful evergreen tree that some consider to volunteer a bit too readily (spread by bird poop). I'm growing it in my yard, but it's not as common up here. Have no idea on the deciduous one.

Plants in front are Rosemary. No way of telling if they're 6 inches or 2 feet high. And how can I say how high the window is? Is the lamb life size or four inches? I need something of known dimensions to gauge scale.
