Questions about how/where/when to plant various seeds
Comments (7)Hello fellow buckeye! Here in Columbus, I am going to try sowing bottle brush buckeyes again this year. Last year I made the silly mistake of drying my seeds. Once the pods crack, those buckeyes are ready to go. Here's the problem for me, I have tried to grow Ohio Buckeye trees in the past and those darn squirrels dig them up and eat them every time. I have about a dozen of so volunteers in the yard every year from my neighbor's Ohio Buckeye, but that doesn't seem to satisfy them. This year I am growing in those black pots and putting a 2 liter bottle cut in half over the top. I hope that will hold them....See MoreWhen and how to plant Canna Lily seeds
Comments (3)I would not start now. Start in January or February. Nick or file through the hard black surface. When you see white thats far enough. Put seeds in a bottle or jar of water until you see a white shoot coming out. Plant in a pot, put in window or under lights until last frost date....See Morefrom seed how long to lupines bloom?
Comments (12)Hi I started my lupins a few days ago, and have sprouts many many sprouts! I was shoked when all the seeds germinated.(I read on a few posts that some folks had difficulty with them)So I wasn't expecting much to happen. What I did was rub the seeds between two sheets of sand paper 10 or so at a time. Then soaked them for 24 hours. Threw them into a container with a bit of dirt then into a bread bag. These were seeds from last falls plants, that I planted in my parents garden around 15 years ago. They were actualy my first perenial, and really hardy plants. Where they are planted is full sun, wind and clay soil, no fertilizer or amendments to the soil and they just keep ona going year after year. No clue as to the variey,(pink and purple flowers. probably russels?) The original plant was bought late season when the garden centers knock down the prices, to get rid of the left overs, so no tags. Amazing I can remember when and where I bought that plant over 15 years ago, but can remember where I put my key's half the time! Im hoping that my newbies will do as well,as their parent plants.!Frogged...See MoreHELP - Lupines grown from seed have/had a bug
Comments (1)Sounds like root maggot. Since you're growing from seed they must have gotten into your soil. Were you using new potting soil, clean pots? Hoping for the best. Libby...See Morelpptz5b
