I got the picture, albeit a hair fuzzy on the shop computer. Four feet tall is a bit of a stretch unless the gal in the background is at least 8'! They look exactly like the true Egyptian tree onions, a.k.a. Egyptian walking onion. It's not a case of the seeds germinating on the stalk, the walking onions skip the seed phase and simply produce ready-to-plant bulbs which are called bulbils. When those tall stalks tip over, the bulbils take root where they land. Hence the walking onion name. They also have a bit of insurance built in just in case something comes along to destroy the bulbils. The true bulbs divide so as to produce even more seed stalks. Thus they are a multiplying onion as well. Martin

regsy18 I am no guava expert. In fact I have never eaten one let alone had a guava tree. However your pictures look exactly like the guava pictures that came up in a google image search for guava.

michmatt, Thank you so much for giving it a name! (I just re-read my post and I meant to say "string of hearts", NOT ears LOL) All I have done was brought it home, hung it in a filtered south facing window for winter months. Other than that, just hangs in front of the house when it is nice out. Let dry between watering. I try to only use rain water when possible. I think I am just lucky to have it still alive, as I know not what I am doing with Hoya's. : ) What I was worried about is the soil it came with. You know, that kind that almost seems waterproof & has to be literally soaked in order to gain moisture? It all seems to try and run between the pot and right out the bottom. Stick the whole thing down in rain barrel & plant floats out of pot, kind of stuff. : ( Thanks again, Rose
