Hydrangea-dummie needs your help!!

I live in Oregon, about 3 miles inland from the ocean, in a cool, rainy climate. Our summers are sunny & dry - but still cool.

I have a spot in the garden that I'd like to plant a vivid blue hydrangea in. I realize that I have to amend the soil with Aluminum Sulfate & coffee grounds to get the vivid blue color I desire. But I'm wondering what the best shrub would be to buy -- there are so darn many out there.

The spot I have would get sun in the morning, & then dappled sun for the rest of the day. So not alot of sun.

You may not need aluminum sulfate. And coffee grounds aren't acidic.

As for which hydrangea to get, ask for one that gets very blue and tell them the space you have available.

In z8 you have an endless list to chose from and your limitation would be the only vendor's selection.
See them IN BLOOM and pick whatever you like.
Don't settle for generic Nikko Blue or Endless Summer.
P.S. IMO Enziandom is one of the most 'vivid blue' from the readily available hydrangeas.

It seems as though that the carb will need to be cleaned. You may luck out and only need to drop the bowl, clean that area, take the straw from a jet spray carb cleaner and work it up into the very center of the stem and spray. Of course, it is good to know that the fuel getting to the carb is clean and fresh. Should further cleaning be required, they can be a bit tricky to remove, clean and reassemble if you are questioning your mechanical ability. If you go further, watch closely how gaskets and links come off. There is a small jet that unscrews in that center stem and a tube that you shake/ push out to clean. Or new carbs are really quite affordable as well.

Judy - I have attached a link to CNET. It has an explanation of how and what you need to download. The download is for software that you purchase - but you can use it in DEMO mode for seven days without purchasing. It limits your record time to one hour segments, unless you purchase it. It might get you by if the segment is under an hour. I would say the very easiest way would be to put a tape recorder in front of your computer speakers and record it that way. If you don't have a tape recorder - you could check into borrowing one - often Library's have them to lend.

Thank you, Iowagirl. By using copy and paste, I was at least able to separate the folders that I'd inadvertently combined thinking that I'd get all individual pics into one folder. Instead, I got 3 folders put into 1 folder. Sheesh! I have Adobe Photoshop Album Starter Edition 3.2 I think my problem is that when I click to open My Pictures folders, they open into Adobe Photoshop, and I can't seem to copy and paste from that. It wasn't that way until I started messing with Adobe PS, but I don't remember how they opened. I think it was Windows Fax and Viewer. ( Is that what it's called?) Can you tell me how to reset where my folders open? Whatever I had before was easier for me to work with. TIA again, Leslie/KS

I use Baldwin knobs. The half dummy is a small 1/2 inch bore hole similar to a cabinet knob with a small matching plate on the back of the door. This would be used for a closet door where you don't see the back of the door. The knobs come with a template for the hole. You just use a 1/2 inch regular drill bit, takes 30 seconds. My Baldwin full dummy is a spindle through the 1/2 inch hole with a fixed knob on either side. It looks like a regular door knob but doesn't turn so it is used on doors that you see both sides. I would definitely get a full dummy set for your doors since it is a passageway. Just make sure your guy doesn't drill regular bore holes in the door. I ordered closet doors prebored and am stuck using a regular functioning knob set since the holes are too big for a dummy set. I guess some dummy knobs must just get screwed on from the front? Maybe that is what you were looking at? I thought they all worked like Balwins.

Yeah, I've tried asking for one that gets very blue. We don't have that kind of nursery staff around here. That's why I'm asking for help here.

Peggy, your soil near the rainy coast is likely already plenty acidic (like my own) without you amending. If you aren't finding the suggestions you want at your closest nurseries, are you close enough to make a drive to Scappoose? Joy Creek can help you with vivid blue, and their staff is qualified guide you.

You might consider Enziandom as mentioned, Gertrude Glahn, Hamburg, Mathilda Gutges, Merrit's Beauty - all rich blue and most likely in their display gardens (well worth the drive) for you to compare.
