Here are pictures of some plants that are seldom, if ever, mentioned. I'm not sure why because I love them!

Some of these are very new. Blue Samuel, Hampshire County, Rosedale Golden Candlestick, Li'l Abner and Carolina Sunshine were all new last year (some in late Sept.) Brave Amhurst was new this spring and I'm finding it wonderful. It's got a steely blue color that is quite unique.

The others I've had for a while. Here's Cool Hand Luke again. This would definately make my top five. The thin margin and thick round leaves are different from any other hosta I've seen. It's hard for me to understand why everyone doesn't want to grow it.

Beautiful plants in a beautiful setting as usual... I passed up Hampshire County last week and I will now go kick myself Again!! LOL

Xtal, it bloomed for about 3 days. I have it on my deck and the smell was only noticeable when right next to it. I wouldn't have it in the house while it was blooming :). garden_witch, I'm weird too...guess that is why I have it! Rebecca

Hi Sue, Congrats on your bloom, well one is better than none,(o: I'm sure you will be get more. I too have some very small buds but who knows if they will bloom? I will post if I do since this will be my very first gardenia flower if I get them to bloom, that is. Very Pretty flower and I'm sure it smells wonderful...

Thank you, Fori. I don't know why I can't seem to get a picture that doesn't make it look like more of a contrast than it really is.. Looks like a black floor with a huge bright orange center. Like a Butterfinger bar cross-section, lol! Columbusguy, I've said before... Those staples lay eggs, I swear they do! You get them all pulled, then a week or so later they hatch & new ones pop up. You KNOW that one wasn't there yesterday! My first mistake was when pulling up carpet pad, wasted so much time wrangling the left-behind pieces from under the staples. I eventually quit doing that, when I realized it actually protected the floor from the flat screwdriver I used to raise the staple enough to grip with pliers. (& makes staples easy to find, lol). For the ones without padding pieces - my first use of the credit card on this project. Well not really... First use was new washer/dryer to replace old one that caused all this, new bathroom subfloor, bamboo flooring (it was a compromise - DH got what he wanted in bathroom & I got to do what I wanted in this room. Refer to 1st pic - he was less than enthusiastic about my plan!). Anyhow, I found that if you can wedge the corner of plastic card under the staple, then - w/a very thin head screwdriver, you can dig & pry the staple up. Cutting an old card helped, made it possible to get it further under staple. Also helps, if you can, to pry from the other side of staple toward the "bulk" of plastic - in case you slip! (& you will @ least once if you're anything like me, lol). So... I know it sounds like a silly idea, a lot of work, & slow - but it worked great for me. After a couple of the little buggers are up, you find a rhythm, & it goes really fast. I kept pliers & magnetic bowl with me, & left the card in place to yank the staple out. "Card in left hand, pry from right, grab & yank, next! Not having to be as careful about scratching finish made it easy to go quickly!

Minnies, well I don't particularly dislike them, but to me I just don't have the patience for them, they are like little children. I adore little children, but they grow up.....minnies never do. Others love them, fine. Each to his or her own. I also don't like thin leaved hostas which, no matter how colorful they may be remind me of the weeds that are far too familiar around here. Different strokes for different folks. Jon

Looking at your beautiful photos, I realized I'm attracted to the yellow/green ones the most...like Christmas Pageant and L'il Abner. But they're all great looking hostas you have there. Very healthy ones, too.

Lovely lovelies, McT!!!

I received 'Frosted Jade' from an ebayer last year (not John) that never has had any blue or frosted cast to the leaves. It basically looks like
a longer leaved 'Francee'!

Has yours always had the 'frosty' tint to the leaves?

Hey! That Leather Sheen looks an awful lot like an unnamed I've had floating around forever. It's hard to tell from the angle of the photo, but does it have a very slight white margin around the leaves?

I can't post a pic here, but a pic of my "joshua's banner" is in the library and it is one of my unsung favorites.
I also like margin of error, sweet home chicago, leading lady, slick willy, sea octopus, princess diana and mistress mabel as uncommon favs this week.

Hey-J--I have had my Frosted Jade for 14 years, and this year it looked so weird that I imagined I had planted another Hosta in it's place. However, it finally came around to it's frostedness. We've had a weird spring indeed. It is one of my all time favorites. Hope yours shapes up--spit on it. Mary

Sassy, My husband made the planter. It's part of a larger one. I'll post pictures of the whole thing soon when I get to some of the projects we've been working on this year.

Janice, My Frosted Jade always seems a little frosty and certainly lighter than Francee. That may be because I have Francee in more shade. Sometime it looks a little blue but sometimes it doesn't. The margin is different, thiner and turned up. I'll send you some pictures.

Silly Me, Your Gin and tonic is beautiful. I'm looking forward to mine getting round like that.

Firethorn, Leather Sheen doesn't have a white edge. It must just look that way in the photo

Flower Child. I don't know which picture is yours in the library but I'm happy to have Joshua's Banner this year. With three leaves, it has a ways to go.
