Regimen for my LITTLE Honey Hydrangea

I ordered an "Oak Leaf Hydrangea 'Little Honey' - Gallon" from parks about a week ago.

It arrived in a quart container, probably it's original liner container. It's about 4" tall. To their credit, Parks was very responsive and gave me a partial credit (they didn't actually have any in gallon containers). Regardless, I still have a SHRIMP of a hydrangea.

Normally I fertilize lightly, if ever. I compost and mulch religiously. However, I think this guy may need a serious regimen to come even close to filling in the roughly 3'x3' area I have set aside for him.

Currently I have it in a 3 quart pot with a handful of slow release 10-10-10. I'm watering twice a day, initially. It gets about 2 hours of morning sun.

What should I do over the next year or two to get this guy into shape?

What are the dangers of over-fertilizing hydrangeas? Burn? Misshapen? Leggy?

Should I get it into the ground?

Should it be moved to different lighting conditions?

What kind of growth can I expect over the next couple years?

As you can probably tell, I'm new to this!
