Hello all!
Comments (7)Yes the tiny pearl like eggs are koi eggs....they are about the size of a pin head......if you don't want the eggs to hatch....yes toss them....also make sure to do a large water change...I like to do at least 40% change after a spawn....but, chances are some of those eggs are also attached to the liner....and once the egg attaches to anything it will stick to it....the eggs get sticky as soon as they hit the water and attach to the first thing they come in contact with....and if your guys are anything like mine...Hyacinth is just an invitation to spawn... Lawanna...See Moresunfish in my pond?
Comments (15)Big opps! Sorry Jenny for the loss of "Gil". And Sherry, sorry for my blonde moment..or was that a menopausal moment? I ended up draining the entire pond the past 2 days and caught every one of the little babies (over 400) and the older goldfish and shubumkins that started this. I took them to a pond store and they put them in one of the big ponds they have. I felt bad giving up the 5 older fish. The store owner told me that 3 of them were full of eggs, so I got them just in time. I was elated that they agreed to take them. I now have just eleven 1 to 2 year old Koi in the pond and hopefully it will be a few years before they start spawning. My pond is around 3000 gallons and even though I could have more fish..these are plenty! Happy Easter! Renee...See Morekoi babies??
Comments (2)I didn't think my fish had spawned until I found a bunch of dead babies - all eyes and tails -- in the filter box this afternoon. I think they had taken the trip through the U.V. I never saw any shoving in the pond, no eggs, no foam (well a little, but I thought it was docs. Apparently not!), so this was a total surprise....See MoreGot Koi!!!
Comments (3)Ademink, Well since I never seen Koi eggs, I wasn't sure what I was looking for. I am sore all over from pond cleaning, part Saturday and Easter Sunday after church, but the pond and Koi look great. I collected some eggs in the pond that were in the water lily pots. Also these tiny little eggs..I assume they are eggs. Ha! I put them in my Nano tank. I told one of my fin friends who raises Koi and she told me Koi eggs are transparent and do not float. These tiny white looking Styrofoam eggs also float. So I have no idea what they are. Ha! From all the skimming and brushing these tiny things were floating all over the pond. My husband has been teasing me saying they are probably spider eggs or frog eggs. I doubt either, since the pond was netted, and so does he but he likes to tease me. I only have 6 feeder goldfish, dozen rosey minnows and 16 Koi. If nothing happens I will get rid of them. My other fin friend wants me to wait at least 4 weeks just to see if anything comes from them. At the time I was net scooping them up this Saturday, thinking this is a great Easter egg hunt. Now I don't even know if they are eggs. I feel kind of silly. At least I have really nice mini Hardy water lily growing in my Nano tank since last Fall. This Summer I will place it in a pot and put it back into my garden pond. I will keep you posted if anything comes to life from this unknown. They probably creatures from the black lagoon. LOL. I still will keep a close eye on any babies that may appear in the koi pond. My luck they will be feeder goldfish like last year. I ended up with 5 goldfish babies surviving. Theresa...See Morekevip711
