If you have good soil you dont need to fertilize our irises. They will be just fine without it. And I agree with Jain, don't divide them when you plant. Wait a few years until you have a juciy clump and then split them up. Mike

Hi Andrew, Oh no! Get ready for iris fever. I hope you have good luck with your reblooming collection from Spring Hill. I am a fanatic for reblooming irises, but I live in Southern California, where they do well. The irises you bought from Spring Hill may not have been grown in Ohio, since they are a large national nursery company. I suspect they will do well this year, since they have stored energy in the rhizome from last year, but you may have some trouble with them next year. We would love to hear reports from you on how they do. A business can post on Gardenweb as long as they follow the rules for businesses. The original poster did violate the rules as the post was not a direct solicitation to sell but a message to visit which is considered advertisement. I would like to see this changed at least for this group. My change would only apply to businesses that do not do mailorder. It would encourgage people to visit local nurseries to see different types of peonies. If after you visit it would be up to the visitors to purchase. I personally would like more of the regional nurseries that grow & sell peonies to post here. There are many that only sell at regional markets or at the nursery. Without knowing about them how can locals look at their products and view any display gardens or growing fields, where permitted. I do find it strange that I can link to a nursery that I like even mailorder but a nursery that sells only locally can not.

+2 I agree. For most chilis, if I want truly ripe peppers, I wouldn't pick them until they are ripe on the plant or at least, starting to turn ripe. For instance, a Hot hungarian wax pepper will be a yellowish green color while growing. But once it starts to ripen, it will turn a shade of orange and shortly after will go to a nice bright red color. If you want "ripe" ones, pick them when red or at least orange going on red. That being said, many peppers are normally picked and eaten when still green such as a Jalapeno which will eventually turn red. There is a bit of taste and heat difference between them and it is a matter of personal preference. I generally pick and process most of my Hot Hungarian wax when they are still yellowish green. I do this for a few reasons. 1. The flavor and heat suits me fine at that stage. 2. I usually don't want to wait too long. Any time after they reach mature size, I will pick them. 3. It allows the plant to get busy and put it's energy into producing additional pods. Bruce
