You Guys Were Right On/Another Question

I had asked a few days back about herbicide sprayed on irises. This photo of Epicenter, my first flower which opened today, demonstrates exactly what you all said would happen to the bloom. The sad thing is that I didn't even realize that this plant had been sprayed. If this is a precursor to the bloom season, it will be a very sad spring.

The spots on the leaves in the other photos emerged about four days after I noticed that spray in my beds. I had assumed that they were related, but perhaps this was faulty cause-effect reasoning on my part. Is this "leaf spot" instead? My irises have never had leaf spot, and I've never seen it. It's been a wet last few weeks. Can anyone tell me if this is leaf spot and thus unrelated to the herbicide?

Mike,

I responded to one of your pics. Looked like leaf spot to me. The good news for anyone new to iris is that it is not fatal. Just unsightly. You can spray with fungicide to try to keep it from spreading. Ugly stuff.

My irises are blooming, I know that they multiply, however do they seed and if so where do I loo for them?

I got my PJP II (Weeks) at a local nursery. I believe Weeks grows for JP. It came in a mini pot and has done very well. I have fewer roses and I like to choose the bush that I am going to buy. I bought three bare root by mail last year. They were disappointing when they arrived, but two have done well. I shovel pruned Double Delight.

Ditto! George, you and donnabaskets gave some great tips about digging the holes early. And here I was like a dope out digging in January, lol! Of course, I *had* the bulbs in October... I just never got around to planting them then. It's not like I knew I was going to get some late bulbs in. I just kept putting it off until it got too cold. Lucky for me we had some warm weather in January, and I decided to give it a shot! :) Dee

Buyorsell, I always THOUGHT that about rocks cooking the roots! But everything I've read said to put it there. Sedum is a wonderful idea. I've got it growing everywhere else, why not at the base of clematis? I know that clematis like water and all, but I can promise you guys that I have some of them that have never gotten one drop of supplemental water - and around here it can get up to a 100 for 2 months in a row with no rain - and those clematis live and grow and bloom their fool heads off each year. That's one reason I love them.

Oooo, wild flowers! I'm sorry to report that the nice rain we had here at home was nothing in our large veggie garden 20 miles away. Dad referred to it as a fizzle at his/our garden (apparently a cross between a drizzle and a phooey! ;o). I've asked the neighbors to "borrow" their water if there's no rain in the next few days. (Nice to have nice neighbors, neighbor. :o) Humid enuf that it was foggy this morning. The story on the teevee is that CO is way under for temperature today. Warming in the interior NW and I'm hoping that a good deal of sunshine will pull up a thundercloud from some wet soil somewhere and dump that water on my 2,500 square feet of pea and beet seeded ground.
