newbie bearded iris id

Landscaper planted these iris just as 'bearded iris' and I have been trying to ID them. I looked at the Historic Iris Gallery, the million or so pics by gmason and others posted on this board and snowpeak.com, but can't ID these. All the pics wanted to make me buy more!! These are my first iris, please help!!

I thought maybe 'Blue Rhythum' or 'Celest'?????

beautiful irises!

I love the oldies myself, but I don't even know the names of the ones I have!

You might look at the photos at this site.

If none of them match, you can join the Society for something like $10 & get access to a more complete catalog of photos.

You might check (*not* the HIPS site or Argyle Acres, those photos are way too dark) to see if Iris #3 is Sinkjkha.

Yay! Thornbird it is! I'm hoping if it's a named plant I might like it more. I figured if I didn't like it I could just dig it up. If you want to trade... Anything in the purplish range would be way better appreciated. I bought two gallon size pots for $12 last fall to fill a space in our planters that the sprinklers just don't seem to hit. The iris seems happy enough. I've never dug up and divided iris before but it doesn't seem hard. The little rhizomes I bought additionally loose were so tiny, but have grown a lot so far this spring! I hope at least one blooms, but I don't know how long it takes for a rhizome to "mature"... At any rate, thanks so much for the ID!!!

I thought your third one might be Sindjkha too, or related to it. The blue and yellow ones though, there's just too many of them in that color class to even guess. Unless an iris is really distinctive its extremely difficult to get an ID.

HIPS has several display gardens around Texas. Perhaps if one is close you could take some blooms there and walk the rows looking for a match. At the least you're bound to find some new ones you'll want to grow.
