Easter present potted hydrangeas

Hello--

My Mom gave me a potted blue hydrangea (the kind you get in a florist's shop or some supermarkets) around Easter. It seems to be holding its own, even perked up a bit since I brought it outside. It has 2 or 3 tiny little flowers on it, not the clusters it had, here and there--oddly, they're pale green with dark pink, which is puzzling. Can/should I plant it somewhere? Or can I keep it potted, get some nice indoor blooms next year? It seems a bit big for the pot and I think it might be a bit happier out in the open. I'm still a newbie and know _nothing_ about hydrangeas other than their changing color with a changing diet--any recommendations on light, soil (I live in NE Ohio, aka "the Land O'#*&@$)^ Clay"), what (not) to plant it near, etc.? Thanks!
