I have grown DD in my dry and hot zone 10 climate for more than 15 years now and both my plants do great. They don't like my alkaline soil that much and can get chlorosis but this can be corrected with some citric acid and iron chelate. It's flower production is not as massive as say Firefighter or Perfume Delight or Happy Child or Sonia Rykeil but I've always got at least 1 or 2 every week in between the bigger flushes. it is consistently very fragrant in both cold and hot weather. It is one of the first to start flowering and one of the last to finish. It lasts well as a cut rose, opens slowly and looks good for a long time. It is one of my favourites of all time.

Wow Kate that's all beautiful...I love your garden. Seeingreen I'm basically doing the cottage garden thing so I have all the colors in my garden really. I do try to incorporate as many natives as I can too. I have coneflowers, daisies, silvery lupin, yarrow, hardy geranium, nepeta, salvia, allysum, candytuft, hollyhock, foxglove, linaria, lunaria,columbine, calendula, asters, four o'clock, snapdragon, black eyed susan, phlox, violas, poppies, lilies, iris, daylilies, sunflowers, campanula, balloon flower, cosmos, zinnia, cornflower, flax, marigolds, nasturtium, stock, petunias, cleome, bee balm, larkspur, penstamon, agastache, gaura, Russian sage, coreopsis, various herbs,, and a lot more I'm forgetting. Of course my anchor plants are roses and I have a mix of colors and forms with them too. The spot where I'm thinking of planting DD is on th e opposite side of a sidewalk as the rest of the yard so really I can do whatever I want in that spot since its empty right now.

I am having to agree with you Katya last year I couldn't cover up any of my roses for the winter due to the snow arriving here in Oct!!!! And my nearby garden centre had ran out burlap. I also was going thru a fun time with pulled muscles in my arm, shoulder and upper inside the leg. So had to go for therapy. Came down with a nasty head cold during xmas. I was having a fit thinking they all had died on me but they proved to me how tenacious they really are!!!! Not one rose died!!!!! And you should see them now. Buds galore on the shield, the campfire, the at last rose, my newest blaze rose and the double knockout pink. My Always and Forever rose is getting lots of leaves on it and is slowly going from red to green. My Strike it rich rose has a big bud on it and my chinook sunrise is so healthy. Only one that didn't was the Lizzie rose but it was having issues before the winter even came. When it died on me I got a coral dawn to replace it. And like wow had no buds on it. Now is getting all kinds of them on it. The one lady that lives a door down from me in the building we are in cut them all back for me since I couldn't do it this year. Thanked her for it. In fact one year I gave her a big bloom off my Always and Forever Rose in a fancy jar. Went on to get 4 more rose blooms off it.

If you faithfully maintain a spray program for insect and disease, especially for black spot, you can successfully grow the roses you named. It is not easy to faithfully maintain a spray program. Miss a scheduled spray, and the consequences can be very disheartening. Find an organic fungicide/insecticide that works for you. This is only accomplished through trial and error, and you will have good success with your roses, and in the process, NOT expose yourself, loved ones, and the environment to dangerous, life threatening chemicals. Had you chosen varieties of roses that have been bred for disease resistance, you could have at least eliminated the necessity of spraying fungicides. Then for insects, which rose breeding has not yet advanced to the level of insect proof varieties, you can chose an organic insecticide that works for you, thereby minimizing work and handling dangerous, toxic chemicals. I know I do not sound too encouraging and I'm sorry for that, but growing roses is not exactly a 'walk through the park.'. The named variety we chose to grow is extremely critical for success. Love, Double Delight, and Queen Elizabeth (horrible disease buckets), are older varieties that were introduced to commerce back then when spraying was considered a necessary element of growing roses successfully, and was understood as part of the rose growing scene. Nowadays, no spray roses, at least for diseases, are many and readily available. Only in places, mostly those having low rainfall and humidity, and where rose diseases are few or of little significance, can just about any variety of rose be grown without intense spraying. Moses
