I think about anything goes well with LL.

I think it might be my favorite also. I can't remember how long I've had mine, but last summer was the first year that it was huge and had so many blooms.

I now think it it too big for the bed it is in and am planning to move it to the corner of the house, where it will be a great focal point as one drives up. I dread disturbing it, and the job it is probably going to be to move something that big, later in the fall

I pruned mine last fall and it has really taken off this year. The blooms are so huge. Pictures just don't do it justice. I wish my "Pinky Winky" Hydrangea had of been the correct plant. I had planned on planting it right beside this Limelight.

Hi - My baby L'light is fast growing & is growing dear to my heart as well. In 2 years, how large has your blooms gotten?

In 6 wks, after moving to a huge pot, this baby has grown 6"+ taller(now 3.5') & produced several new cluster buds ... the 7, nursery boosted clusters had blossomed ... I simply adore these petite, cones of (5" x 5") fresh, cool froth!!! Â;) I hope they don't get too much larger, when she is in the ground & matures!

I have such a combo of Hs & Coneflowers, in my sunny back, butterfly strip, but w/ Pink Diamond (ES in front) not L'light ... (so wonderful to observe the Gold Finches alight the top of the Echinacea blossoms w/o even as much as tip, the tall stems). PD stays white for quite a while (pinks in Sept/Oct). At this light-green stage, of her early blooming, they look great out there! ... I might just move my Annabelle there (she's greening right now), on the (p/s) other side of, clumps of Echinacea!!! Many thanks for the lovely idea!

The other pair I'm gushing over, at these very stages, are QF & L'l Lamb side by side ... QF in her deliciously, rosy pinks & L'il L, in lime-green into white, only heaven's brush can produce such a canvas!!! Â;) As you said, no photo can do justice - today, with the sprinkles of rain & light skies, they seem lovelier together(L'l L a yr older & a bloom taller than QF ... what a pair!). Â;)

The blooms appear to be about 7 inches or more but they are such a nice shape and held so well.

Please post photos when you can! It might give me some more ideas. LOL.

Are you sure you have to move it? I hear that limelights respond well to pruning - I think best time is early spring. I'd hate to move mine too. I am on year 3 on my first and year 2 with the other 3. I love them all. The oldest is getting larger and I plan to do some heavy pruning next year hoping to keep in bounds and maybe see some larger flowers.

G'morning e-m - Thank you for your interest. I created an album to share ... to the left of the Echinacea clumps is the start of the p/s site ... have another ES & Alice Oakleaf H. & several p/s loving collection of sorts. I have Lily of the V. hiding behind that can be dug up for Annabelle.

From the Echinacea (they had to be staked & twined due to 2 days of strong winds) to the lft, is the sunny butterfly strip (Monarda is another great easy/fragrant fav) w/ all sorts of lures etc about 50' long. I intend to dig up some unproductive/ineffective ones, for yet another Paniculata in '10 (fingers crossed).

Sorry it takes so long, to prep an album to post ... my file is so loaded w/ my pictorial garden journal, it's moving so sÂlÂoÂw ... will have to sit down & organize them in CDs!

Hope this helps with ideas - as we agreed no photo can do justice, at least not my cam.

Wow. Your pictures are awesome. I found me a Pinky Winky Hydrangea for 8 dollars yesterday. It was in full bloom so I know I got the correct plant this time. I have no idea what the other plant is. I might see if someone here can identify it.

Okay, Limelight people--I have an opportunity to buy a very young one, and after hearing these raves, I'm definitely tempted. I have a few questions:

Does Limelight need to be protected over the winter?

How much sun/shade does it need?

How tall (and wide) does it get?

G'morning Alisande - Lime-L is an H.paniculata - hardy for our zone - since yours is a real baby, heavily mulch this Winter & if you wish to pile dried leaves do so (I do this some times for me more than my plant! LOL).

She will be able to handle f/s exposure but I was informed by more experienced LL lovers the lime color will turn white sooner than those planted in p/s exposure. Tag says to add nitrogen to soil to intensify lime colour.

Mine is new this year - PW tag says= size:6-8' tall x 6'wd

Blossoms (mature size of 7" as posted by echinaceam..) will take hues of pink in the Fall. I'm enjoying the petite size blossom, of this LL baby, I got 1st wk of June ... very fast winning my heart! I got a 1gal Angel's Blush last season, she is nearly 4.5'tallx3.5'wd & still growing now! She is another one that is taking my heart fast!!! Â;) ... but then I truly love all of my H paniculatas ( if only Li'l Lamb will keep his blooms little!)

Have fun ... as the habit of paniculatas, your little one won't be too little by season '10!

Susan - Limelight is hardy to Zone 3. It can take temps of -40 degrees. I don't think it needs protection in the winter.

These can take full sun or partial shade. According to Proven Winners' website it reaches...

Height: 72-96" (Tall)
Spacing:72-80"

They can be pruned in the fall and it doesn't keep them from blooming the next year! They are amazing plants. I didn't believe the hype, but I do now!
