Dwarf Sibirica 'baby sister'

Just what do you mean by slender? I don't think I have any pictures of Baby Sister. I do like the dwarf siberians because the leaves don't elongate so much they droop over. However, part of that is because the leaves are relatively thick and chunky. At least the McEwen hybrids like Baby Sister seem to be. I also have a species dwarf, but it has been very slow to establish and hasn't bloomed yet.

Sisyrinchium (blue eyed grass) might be more what you are looking for. It's an iris relative, and the variety Lucerne seems relatively easy to find.

Thank you for your response. I am looking for an iris that I can use in my Japanese Garden. The ones I have now are too tall. I now have ensata 'Variegata' Japanese iris and an unknown Siberian iris but the 30 inch height is just too much. I plan to line a small small stream and have the iris I choose travel up a slope and around one side of a boulder. If the plant is too tall it will obscure other elements in the landscape. The graceful fall of the Siberian iris is the look I am going for. The slender foliage of the variegata Japanese Iris tend to droop less and would also be a good if the hieght was 6 to 12 inches.

I googled the Sisyrinchium but it is too tall. thanks for the recommendation though.

I hope with more information someone might know of a iris that would fit my needs.

I got my teeny CJ from Henry Fields, as a matter of fact! It was really clearance priced. It was incredibly healthy, just quite small. I do recommend them for the little starts of these as far as health of the little plant goes. They might have different sizes. I'm sure mine said it was in a 3 inch pot, so I knew what I was in for that way. If you do go with the little babies, just make sure to pay more attention to it than you might for a bigger plant. The roots aren't as forgiving since there aren't too many of them comparatively ;) I potted mine up in good soil and checked frequently for water needs. It was still really easy to grow the whole time. I've had zero problems.

I have some ajuga..unknown variety..and a couple Primroses for your sister if she would still like some? I do have some running bamboo..dwarf green is she wants that..but I sure would not put it in a garden. I did when I was a very green newbie year's ago. OOPS! Still fighting it.!

I have a nice clump of 'Baby Sister' and I agree with mad gallica that she does produce some pretty chunky foliage.

For very slender foliage on a low growing iris, I'd consider something like I. graminea, a Spuria type. The foliage is low (~8") and grass-like and it will produce an abundance of sweetly scented (like grape pop) lavender violet flowers in midSpring. Perhaps not the easiest of the species to find, although often available in better nurseries here, it grows readily from seed. Its only drawback IMO is that it is so diminutive it needs to be planted front and center to be appreciated, as the flower stalks are not overly tall so the flowers tend to be nestled in the foliage a bit.
